Not a bad a few days for Mike Repole. Wins the Wood & now gets epic Kobe farewell with #24 wearing towel plugging his Bodyarmor sports drink

How supportive/re-energized is MP with Chris Mullin & staff's new hope & new direction?

Not sure how much it has to do with new staff, but his Bodyarmor drink has become a major partner of SJU athletics recently.

He was much more visible on campus and at games when Lavin was first hired. They got along very well. Haven't seen him this past year, at all.

Needless to say Chris 7
Thanks
It would be so meaningful if the two sides can reconcile or connect - perhaps they already have- a win-win for sure.

Not at all. Everyone presumed he single-handedly financed the Lavin hire, and that is far from true.

How Beast would you characterize his role - significant?

Not anywhere close to what people thought.

He attended one or two games in Jamaica. He did not appear to be into the action, but how could anyone blame him. He did look a lot more enthused on Saturday in the winners circle after he won the Wood. He almost knocked down his trainer.

Maybe when the winning returns he'll enjoy coming to more games like the rest of us.

I do recall, during the Maui Invitational, that Walton mentioned that the future looked bright and that the fan base was behind the coaching staff, evident by the fact that St. John's was the only team that flew on a chartered flight, which was provided by a backer. I just assumed that it was Repole, but again this was an assumption as they're quite a few of grads with deep pockets. Hey everyone loves a winner, so whether it’s his ponies or the Johnnies, I’m sure he’ll be all in.

Since his Vitamin water cut was well publicized, I'm sure FH wooed him for a sizeable donation. Basically FH only gave potential large donors the time of day. Large donors often want to have a say in how certain parts of the university are run. Many are given some say based on the size of the donation, but generally the donation comes first, then the control is doled out. We know in the past with our basketball program there was a huge issue as to how much control was "bought" in terms of decisions, and there were wounded feelings. Perhaps Repole wanted more authority based on his generosity, or was unwilling to donate and wait. Those are likely very private conversations, but suffice to say, at the moment there is very little if any connection to the university.

Always great to win the Wood but don't expect much more out of that horse. It was the slowest Wood in like 80 years.

It's great when people with facts (Beast) share with those in relative darkness (SS&G) so I appreciate your post.
My question remains - would not MR and CM have common interests and ground in seeing SJU BBall succeed, hence, any prior ill will might be vanquished as Chris moves us in a successful direction?
Thanks again.

These are things that an AD would coordinate with Athletic Development. This department is pretty much rudderless without an experienced AD in that position, no less university general counsel doing double duty. Chris wouldn't be brokering a relationship like that, and really Repole should have nothing to do with CM, other than to support the AD if he chose to. What role he may have in return for his largesse would be up to the AD and Gempeshaw should anything transpire. KEep in mind, there is nothing in Repole's considerable business success, which is primarily in the sales and marketing end of food and beverage to suggest he could offer direction on St. John's athletics.

Yeah I sat next to him at one of the games this year at CA. I forget which game it was, but like everyone in the building he wasn't exactly entertained by what he was watching on the court.

Considering our history and his track record for success, perhaps he's not accustomed to making bad investments :)

Rumor has it that they found a bottle of Gatorade in CM's office. :)
