Mike Repole Joins Bid to Buy the Mets

seems like it would be a clash of strong personalities - depending on who has what influence and becomes the face and voice.

Coming off the Repole / WFAN rant last year, until I see where Repole gets to with the future new president next year along with Mike Cragg as a potential change agent, I don't care all that much what he does with his cash. Local guy and successful grad, but would like to see give back in a really big way athletically and academically, even if it means giving him some influence to the program. He talked a lot, but not sure if he's really wanting to step up like he says.

Remain hopeful, Steve Cohen is the next owner. Big bucks, lifelong Mets fan, very very smart.

I can't stand A-Roid
I've been a Mets fan since Day One
If he becomes an owner, I will switch my allegiance to another team

I have been a fan since 62 as well. My concern with the J-Lo/A-Rod purchase is what happens to the team when the inevitable Hollywood divorce happens? That's more issues and problems. I was hoping for a Steve Cohen re-entry as well. We shall see.

I can totally understand not liking A-Rod. That said, he is no dummy. Smart guy who would probably ensure a good product is on the field.

Agree with you re A-Roid. Did not see him being able to be the majority owner as it is too steep for his blood, in my opinion. He would need significant additional capital that he and J-Lo don't have combined--enter Repole who would want significant control (remember his comments when Wilpon's asked him to invest a few years back).
Repole would be very involved and the Wilpon's would be gone. Both pluses for us long suffering Mets fans.

I also wonder whether A-Roid suspension would preclude him from ownership of an ML franchise.

Bottom line either Repole or Cohen are fine with me

Rodriguez served his suspension.
Just like Steinbrenner served his.

If the wilpon's were willing to cede all control and leave the building wouldn't cohen already own the mets?

times and circumstances have changed significantly since Cohen was FIRST involved :)

very true. I haven't keep close tabs but has the franchise value/selling price gone down?

Please...anyone...ANYONE but the Wilpons. Make a random golden retriever the owner and he will do a better job. Whether it's Cohen or these guys, make it happen. On a side note, we should've let Repole buy all the influence he wanted with our program. He has tons of money to throw at his favorite teams. We were one, then we totally left him out of any influence. Couldve gotten us new facilities, chipped in a ton for new arena, etc. But we said no.

In their mind no, in reality, yes the value has gone down. They had a sweet deal they should have accepted instead of deciding on renegotiating for more years of control. They want see an offer that good anytime soon with the conditions as they are today.
