Mid season MVP

With Big East play starting next week, I thought it would be fun to start a thread on a Mid season MVP. I thought everyone could name their top 5 players that would be most deserving.

I'll start it off:

1. LJ Figueroa - Our top scorer and plays hard both ends of the court. The obvious MVP so far.
2. Josh Roberts - Played as our top big man with some very good defense and rebounding.
3. Julian Champagnie - Well rounded player. I knew he would surprise a lot of people. However, he's exceeded my expectations for his first year. I can't wait to see how he further develops.
4. Mustapha Heron - Our best shooter. However, he's been streaky lately. If he was more consistent, he'd probably be higher on my list.
5. Rasheem Dunn - When I think of Mike Anderson's style of play, he's the guy I think of. Awesome motor and non stop hustle. If he develops a consistent outside shot, he's going to go from good to great.

You nailed it 1-5 for me. Marcellus 6th and id also also add that 7-10 have all won us games so far this year. Williams WVU, Caraher UMASS, Rutherford/Sears Arizona.

OK:
1) Fig
2) Champ
3) Roberts
4) Earlington
5) Rutherford

No disrespect intended to Heron but due to missed games and inconsistent performance this is my honest opinion to date.

Earlington and Rutherford would of been next on my list.

Agree that Heron has been inconsistent. However, he's still been excellent when he's been on. I think you and I both have high expectations of him. Therefore, we're disappointed when they're not met. However, I think playing within Mike Anderson system has something to do with him not being able to meet our expectations on a consistent basis. That's why I still rated him.

LJ, no doubt
I agree with Champ at #2.

Cole, Wusu, Posh. If any of those 3 don't kill it next year, and all 3 come back for the 2021-22, I think they'll have a deep run. I'm saying it right now, Champ as a Jr. is going to be a real special player.
those 4 will carry us. We'll have real role players as well.

Lets get to the ncaa this year, and get this ncaa win that we havn't gotten in 20 long years. That right there would far exceed any expectations for cma in his first year, but if any coach can do it, it's that man.

Not to nit pick but LJ has to improve his 39% Shooting. He can start by losing his mostly ridiculous floaters He’s twice as good from 3 than he is on “floaters”

When he was hitting the floaters, Walton was comparing him to pete marovich. When he starting hoisting up wild threes, Walton pivoted and compared him to world b free. Hahahahahahahahaha

We need more maravich lj and less world b free lj.

I'm going by MVP. Who is most valuable to the team. To me his role on this team is mature, team leader and go to guy. Maybe go to guy part is unfair expectation but I think he accepted that role. Regardless of that however he's made too many silly fouls including against inferior competition. That gets me more than the scoring in terms of him being MVP. LJ is MVP to me partially because of the scoring but more so because he is hustling constantly. The next three I like because they are executing. Champ has had the best execution. Roberts and Earl have been great surprises but even without that, they have executed the best after Champ. Rutherford is next not because he's prolific but he's executed well. He went 2 or 3 games at one point without a turnover. The main knock that I had on him was that he seemed to get down on himself and lacked some confidence. In the AZ game he seemed to have gotten over that. If it is permanent then that bodes well for the rest of the season.

Don’t sell our current sophomores short. Williams and Roberts can wind up being special players also with Earlington being a real glue guy.

I agree. I dont think any of the freshman will start next year. I see the lineup out of the gate as:

1- Dunn
2- LJ
3- Duke
4- Penny
5- Roberts

The youngins wil have to earn their time.

They very well could be, but there's just something that I see in Champ, that tells me that he has it.

I think LJ is gone after this year.

Champ
Roberts

Bench:
Steere, Earl, Wusu, Sears, Williams

As far as mid-season MVP, I'm going to wait two more games when our season is virtually half over. Also by then we'll have played two more top thirtyish teams to go with the two we've played to date.

I love LJ, but I dont see him as an nba talent. If guys like powell and howard came back, LJ can come back. I think hes a 4 year guy at st johns.

Personally, I think Anderson’s whole coaching philosophy and approach is anti-MVP as is mine, so no opinion here, unless I can vote for the TEAM,,,
