Metta World Peace says someone offered him $35,000 to fix games in college

Don’t feel confident Metta is high on demand list for commencement speakers. Perhaps, University of Pluto.

If I were to be able to fix a game I'd target a ref and have him call a foul on every shot along with several technicals and bet the over.

I knew someone who worked in the athletic department during the Ron Ron years. He told me that privately Jarvis expressed that Ron was by far the craziest kid he had ever coached.

I wish there were 5 such crazy kids on next year's team.

But not in your pharmacology class

if a game was ever fixed it was 1990 NCAA Tournament St. John's / Duke and it wasn't a player. That was orchestrated from the highest levels! Also the two programs went in polar opposite trajectories after that. Duke also passed St. John's a couple years later on the all time wins list. Up until that point, St. John's was #4.

I don't know.  Artest played the first half of the Ohio State game as if he was drugged.

Yes! We were totally hosed in that game. I recall Louie was livid. Polite, but fuming.

Actually I was scouting with Looie at an NYU - West Virginia game at MSG where by an NYU player was throwing the game. Never noticed it until Looie kicked a chair across the suite.  Several months later  a front page article appeared in the Journal American newspaper naming the two NYU players, one of them played for me in the popular Flushing tournament the year prior.

I always had my suspicions about that game, from the time I watched it.

I don't think Ron would talk about it in a book if he actually threw the game. Plus he's way too competitive and he knew he was a future pro, so $35,000 meant crap to him.

Someone with connections to the program told me years ago he was high, but I've long suspected that he was doped up from anti-depressants.

Hasn't Metta acknowledged suffering from bipolar affective disorder? If so, the meds for that condition can knock you on your butt.

Ron in the overtime loss to dreaded Duke at the Garden in that afternoon game, was the greatest L I ever attended.

The way Ron played played so hard, so determined and trying to single handedly will us not to lose was one of the best examples of leaving your heart out there on the floor that I have ever witnessed.
