The Knicks bought out Metta World Peace's contract today and waived him.

MWP released this statement....

"It was a childhood dream of mine to play basketball professionally in New York City, and it has truly been a blessing for that dream to have come true. However, under current circumstances, my agent and I have agreed that being bought out would be the best option for me professionally. I would like everyone to know that whether I was on the court or off, I could not have been happier playing for and cheering on this amazing city, my city. Lastly, I would like to thank all of the incredible fans of New York, as well as my teammates."

Best of luck

He did an extended interview w/Kay and Lagreca...could not have been more professional about his situation...Took calls from listeners...came across great...

They asked him if he would ever like to coach SJ...he said absolutely and then quickly caught himself and said he loves "Lav"

He really loves SJ...you can tell...

If he ever were to come back to SJ to coach, say as an assistant....would he change his name back to Artest? I don't know if "Coach Peace" has a good ring to it....

One of my favorite players. He overcame a lot to get to where he is. I remember seeing him being interviewed on Larry King after the Lakers won the championship- he was auctioning off his ring to support kids with emotional / behavioral problems. Class act.

No doubt RON RON had issues. Nevertheless, he was a very important contributor to our last great Elie 8 team. It seems so long ago. And, he's the next to last of our NBA players. Only Harkless is left. Sad Commentary on the last 15 years.

Artest might have taken us to a NCAA title, had he stayed but, who knows?

A great Player in all facets of the game, offense, defense. He could probably teach Players on how to get to the next level but, Coaching ? I don't know..

I had the privilege of getting to know Ron Ron very well during his time at SJU and I never had a bad or unpleasant experience with him. He is an extremely funny and loyal person and has a huge heart for giving to charity. Most people under estimate his intelligence (in the classroom he was an excellent student) and I think it is very brave of him to publicly talk about his personal "issues". I am sure no matter what he does in the future he will be successful and has made a great career out of professional basketball. I also can't believe how fast time passes and that it has been 15 years since he left for the league!

I assume we're talking about college coaching. Don't most schools want that position to be held by someone with a degree? Did Metta ever graduate?

Ask Rutgers :)

I mean he would have to go back and earn his degree. Similar to what Jarvis made Dermon do when he joined the staff. I'm sure there are other examples.

I just thought it was funny you remembered the problems with Jordan at Rutgers so quick.
