It is being reported that Metta World Peace will be amnestied by the Lakers, ultimately making him a free agent. Apparently the Knicks are interested. Here is the link and first sentence of the article:

"The New York Knicks will be among the teams hoping to sign Metta World Peace if he's amnestied by the Los Angeles Lakers and hits the free-agent market, a league source told Yahoo! Sports."

Good or bad sign by the Knicks, if it were to happen? Would be nice to see him be a presence in the NY scene again....

I think I remember reading somewhere that he has a bunch of people mooching off him so I'd say no he is better off somewhere else.

I hope he doesnt end up being another nba player who goes broke static.

From a player perspective I'd love to have him on the knicks

Metta is in Vegas today meeting with the Knicks (agents met with Grunwald yesterday).

In my opinion, he can go to China and play at any age. This is his last chance to play at MSG. I think he leaves Vegas a Knick.

MWP and JR Smith on the same team will be fun.

Big Mike just reported Artest agreed to deal with Knicks- I'm pumped up. For all you WWE fans: And finally Artest has come back to NY!!

I wonder if he will get "point forward" duties.
Jason Kidd is retired, and Raymond Felton can really only get starters' minutes in a "D'Antoni-like" system.

Can really help the Knicks with his ballhandling, defense, and passing abilities. I might actually go to a Knicks game or two this year.

Felton/ Shump/ Ronnie/ Melo/ Chandler/ That's a good team. Artest is a pass 1st - unselfish player. Kobe loved playing with him...he will feed Melo....can't wait to get to MSG!!

Hopefully this leads to Artest on campus more often... Dom is already a lock down defender, imagine what a session with Ron Ron can do for him.

Yesssss!! Welcome home, Ronnie! I definitely think he'll be around the help recruiting and I have a feeling that Lavin will have a recruit bump into Ronnie when he has a recruit visit the Garden

And he can still play...In fact, World Peace was excellent in his final season with the Lakers. He put up 12.4 points, five rebounds and 1.6 steals per game last year, all of which were the best totals of any of his four seasons in Los Angeles. Plus his PER of 12.55 was higher than it had been since the 2008-09 season, per ESPN.

And with World Peace, it's not really about the superficial numbers; his defense and his overall effect on his team are far better indicators of his worth. According to 82games.com, MWP held opposing small forwards to a PER of 15.00 last season, which was exactly league-average. But he limited power forwards to a PER of 13.7, which shows both his toughness and his versatility.

Overall, the Lakers' offensive rating improved 3.9 points per 100 possessions when World Peace was on the floor, while their defensive rating was 3.8 points per 100 possessions better. Altogether, MWP improved the team by a whopping net rating of plus-7.7 points per 100 possessions.

Just for reference, Kobe Bryant's net rating was just plus-3.3 points per 100 possessions for the Lakers last year, per 82games.

I think it was the school's decision and not Ron's.

Nope

Nope is right... SJU loves Ronnie and he feels the same I hope... contrary to popular belief, Artest was never a problem in college... imo, he is one of the CRAZIEST and NICEST guys u will ever meet... Never forget, after the wheel chair classic one year, in a packed basement of alumni seeing artest strip down to his boxers to give a 5 or 6 year old kid in a wheelchair the uniform he wore during the game... that's ron-ron in a nut-shell..lol... God bless and WELCOME home kid!!

Ron might not be going to China but he can go to Chinatown now

It's going to be fun watching him on the knicks and I look forward to the postgame interviews

Welcome home

I'm just curious about Artest's NBA stock, since he signed for the mid-level exception salary of $1.6 million in a one year deal. If the statistics you quote put him in an elite category, and his behavior has been decent, why such limited interest? I've always felt, going back to his SJU days, that Artest was a Magic Johnson type player, who could make a tremendous impact without scoring a lot of points. I'm just a little puzzled that at 33, there wasn't a much bigger deal out there for him. Care to help?

He does get all of his previous contract even though he was bought out. So at that point he didn't really need a big contract. He was looking for where he wanted to land first and foremost

Thanks, Moose. The buyout was mostly due to luxury tax ramifications?
