Dear Alumni,
I cordially invite you to join the St. John's University community as we celebrate the life and career of the late Parshotam L. Madan, Ph.D., Professor of Pharmaceutical Sciences, on Thursday, March 31 at noon in St. Thomas More Church. Madan was a generous and deeply committed advocate for all St. John's students, especially first-generation international students like me. I was fortunate to have known him for 32 years as a mentor, professor, and dear friend.
I vividly remember our first encounter. I was reading the notice board near the library in St. Albert Hall when he asked if I would be interested in doing research in his lab. I immediately accepted this exceptional opportunity to work with the chairman of the pharmaceutical sciences department at the time. Our 10-year research relationship had an important impact on my own career, as I pursued a master's and doctoral degree with his encouragement.
Dr. Madan's passion for and contributions to the pharmaceutical field, especially in microencapsulation, industrial pharmacy, drug delivery, biopharmaceutics, pharmaceutical sciences, and other areas, is acknowledged worldwide. He authored numerous publications and served as a distinguished educator for 40 years in St. John's College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences.
Parshotam Madan will be greatly missed, and I hope you will join us for the memorial service in his honor.
Please RSVP by Thursday, March 24 to Diana Patino-Castro at patinocd@stjohns.edu, if you will be attending the memorial Mass.
