39 points on the #6 team in the country against James Bell and Pinkston is impressive, but his stats tonight were unbelievable. Almost 19, 000 fans tonight!

13-17 overall, 4-6 from three, 9-9 from the line, and 7 rebound to top it off. It's really a great thing to have this kid as a member of the Big East Conference for his special season.

And honestly, when interviewed, seems like a nice kid with decent poise.

Not to mention he resembles a young Robin Roberts, for those old enough to remember.

I am hoping Ray that you don't mean the Good Morning America host, who I don't remember as young. When I was maybe 9, I remember collecting my first baseball cards, and Robin Roberts the pitcher looked absolutely ancient then. If you remember a young Robin Roberts the pitcher (rookie 1948), you certainly are among our most senior members, and by that alone, deserve our respect.

He has absolutely SAVED this conference this year. There would be nothing attractive to non-affiliated college basketball viewers about this league this year if it wasn't for Doug McDermott.

Nailed it.
The great thing is that it's something the Big East benefit from for decades. The Naismith Award is such a huge honor. Doug McDermott will be in the NCAA record books for long, long time.

Agreed. In a small way, he reminds me of Jay Murphy, who was a great Boston College player in the mid 80s. You hated him as an opponent, but you'd take him on your team in a second.

Agreed. Other than watching him flop more than a Seal in a Sea World exhibit against us all other aspects of his game a true pleasure to watch

And his kids who are quite good themselves.

Wouldn’t we love to have a guy like McDermott; wait a second we did, but it was 30 years ago now, boy I am feeling OLD.

Jay Murphy and Martin Clark (from England I believe) formed a very nice front court for those Boston College teams, when BC was geographically and in all other ways in the CORRECT conference.

Yea, true I'm sure Coach K and Billy Donovan loved their ability and bloodline. Murphy was much, much better than a career 14.7 ppg statline.

Good recollection , Beast. Murphy was a excellent college player for BC, along with Michael Adams, Martin Clark, John Garris, for those Gary Williams' teams. One of the best compliments I could give McDermott is that he is having a almost CHRIS MULLIN TYPE SEASON... Not Quite but, in the same neighborhood..

No doubt Doug will be CREIGHTON'S legend for a long time to come and deservedly so. It remains to be seen if Doug can have a HOF career into the NBA as well.. Chris, of course, did..

Creighton fans, take note of Mullin numbers before responding.. And, no 3 pt shot in those days , to the detriment of MULLIN stats.

Mullin's point average would have been quite a bit higher with the three point line.

Comparing McDermott to Mullin was premature on my part.

Does Jay Murphy have sons playing at FLA and Duke?? wow.

His older son was drafted in I think second round of NBA draft. His younger son I believe left Duke after one season and transferred to U of Fla. Murphy was a great college player - we had wars against BC in his era - the Golden era of the Big East

The youngest son Tomas may be the best of bunch.
