How is this not front page news but friday it was on page 24 in DN :evil:

Couldn't disagree more. Willets Point has been in dire need of an overhaul for over 40 years. Bloomberg is hardly the first to realize that; Robert Moses and our own Mario C both tried to put sewers and underground electric in the neighborhood to allow manufacturing to move into the neighborhood; the Sambuccis and other crime-related rackets prevented it then because they didn't want to see the land value go up, increasing their taxes. Not to mention the persistent legend that half the mob hits from the 70s and 80s are buried in the neighborhood.

The environmental cleanup that is required of Flushing river makes this project necessary, to say nothing of the flooding that engulfs the neighborhood and backups traffic on Northern Blvd and the Van Wyck every time it rains.

Bloomberg has his faults -- this isn't one of them. Those chop shops are being paid out almost $2 for every $1 their property is worth, AND they're being given similar property in College Point. That's a sweetheart deal, and the total public cost is less than 1% of the city's annual budget. This project can't start soon enough!

So Wilpon get 23acres for Free & the taxpayers get ripped off for 580 million! how could that be legal?

I never was against the enviromental cleanup of willetts point since I grew up in flushing its all about stealing the ownership of the land from newyorkers who pay the taxes without any benefit.
The wilponzis will get rich again off a shameful steal
