Maybe Cragg Is Bringing Us Into the 21st Century

Mekale was a great guy. I sat behind him at Carnesecca Arena and he was always highly professional, really friendly and very positive. He was a terrific representative for St. John's during his time here.

BTW Mekale left before last season started so I am guessing that the position went unfilled for at least six months. Hopefully Robert will fill his shoes well. Welcome aboard Mr. Rosa and here is hoping you achieve great success at St. John's!

Cragg today re possibility of having opening game st MSG in future;

We have had great talks with Fox Sports and MSG about creating such an event the night after the Champions Classic. Would be a great showcase! Just one night - possible doubleheader. We shall see

Re ticket price increase this season;

Overall - yes - are going up - due to more games in MSG. Per ticket - most sections fairly stable. No question we are way behind in revenue and resources compared to our Big East competitors. Work to do!

Way behind in revenue? Didn't we just set records with attendance last year? We must have made some good money from packing those MSG games. Weren't we way beyond the break-even point in every game there? I knew we weren't Nova or anything obviously, but "way" behind? That sounds very disappointing. Where's the money going?

May be referring to fundraising revenue

Yeah 'record' attendance numbers.
We gave out tons of tickets/heavily discounted I know of.
And we pay a ton for rent.

So that's flawed if there was ever a textbook definition.

If anyone looking only for the carnesseca part of the tix and I'll take the msg games let me know

I love the idea of having a big Fox (or FS1) MSG double header to open the season. Get one of Nova/Georgetown/Hall/UConn/Providence for the second game and make it another version of the Champions Classic. Maybe even do current vs former Big East teams. Tons of possibilities.

A little disappointing to hear that revenue hasn't improved. Still, as long as it isn't going down by giving out free tickets (hopefully not?), I much rather see the stadium packed. MSG would also prefer the stadium packed because it means more food/beverage revenue for them. Get more people in the doors as long as it doesn't negatively impact our bottom line.

As for improving revenue going forward, have to think that the additional UConn game will help. By default that would basically be adding an additional big OOC game each year. Also sounds like Cragg has a very solid plan for more OOC MSG games. Can't have another repeat of last year where our only OOC MSG game was vs Princeton. Finally we have an AD leveraging MSG the way it should be.

There's a new sheriff in town. Let's see what happens this season.

Is it really the smartest move increasing the season ticket prices from last year when the team this year is most likely to be mediocre at best? I was kind of teetering on whether or not to renew my season tickets this year, but if the increase is significant I may go the stubhub/vivid route for a lot of games.

I understand that there will be more MSG games, but when there were only 5 last year did they reduce the season ticket prices? No. Also after the firing of the biggest legend in SJU history as head coach (well deserved, but still) I would think that would turn off a lot of people who had bought season tickets when he was hired. Guess we'll have to wait and see just how much the price goes up before judging though.

We are still trying to recoup from the Madoff investments we had; oops wrong Queens team

It's not only more MSG games, it's more games total. 20 games on this year's season ticket package, compared to 18 last year.

I'm hoping that the per game average remains mostly the same, which Cragg seemed to indicate would happen.
