Mass Transit to Carnesecca Arena

I've been to Carnesecca Arena countless times but I've driven each time. This time, since the game was bumped to noon, my buddy and I are looking to make a day of it which usually includes alcohol. Is the best way to take mass transit to the arena from Long Island the LIRR to Jamaica and a cab to the arena?

After the game we were probably just going to back to Jamaica and hop a train in to the city unless there is anything worthwhile to go close to the arena anymore.

Thanks

Yeah that's probably your best bet. Not much in the area now to grab drinks at.

The Q30/31 bus runs from Jamaica train station to Union & Utopia, but I have no idea what it's weekend schedule is.

Also, you can always take the E train from Jamaica to Queens blvd and take the bus down Union. The Q46 bus comes fairly regularly even on weekends.

While in college I used to hop out at the closest F station and walk to the arena, but I vaguely remember that being kind of a pain in the ass.

I did the same, but then started taking the Q46 from the Queens Blvd. E train stop. I remember the walk from the F train stop took about 15 minutes and involved some hills.

Poor Richard's Pub, is it a distant memory ('75-78)???

Distant? Seems like only yesterday to me. Oh, if I'd only spent the time studying than I spent downing beers and chasing skirts (typically unsuccessful) at Poor Richard's, I might be on the Supreme Court today ... or at least be gainfully employed.

Reason for edit: I had mistakenly -- very mistakenly -- written that I was "typically successful" with the girls at Poor Richard's, when in fact I meant to write "typically unsuccessful." Freudian slip, no doubt.

What became of the Sly Fox? Has something opened its doors since they closed down? What a damn shame.

I don't think it's open yet, but it's suppose to be a Hibachi place. Think they are going to serve beer, but not sure if they will have a bar area or not.

Hibachi place? I would rather see a sports bar serving basic American food. Something like Sly Fox, but a step up in quality. Sly Fox food wasn't bad, but I always thought it was just 'meh."

Spoke to the owner of Sly Fox a while back(great guy), the rent was just too damn high unfortunately. Turning into Japanese place, closest bars I can think of are Hooters in Fresh Meadows and everything on Bell Blvd. unless you want a Hookah lounge.

I suppose Gantrys doesn't exist anymore? During my time there (81-85), that was the place to go! I really need to make a pilgrimage back to campus. I know that I won't recognize the place.

Apparently the players like to visit that Hooters too. I have a friend who met Sir'Dom, Harrison, and Green there one night.

There's Cafe Iguana on Union, next block over from where the Sly Fox was. No idea what's it like, though. Tex-Mex place. I do my imbibing at the Red/White Club events.

Is the food actually good at Hooters? I know several people who claim they go for that reason, but I'm skeptical. . .

I actually kind of like the food, although that's not the reason I go... I go more for the convenience of being right next to the newly refurbished movie theater, I'm sure there are other reasons as well

That movie theater is awesome! Personal recliners for every seat. Like being in a home movie theater

We probably crossed paths back then. I spent many a post game at Gantry's, then would scoot down to JPODs (I believe it was same building that Poor Richard's use to occupy) and them back to Gantry's for the "funnel". Spent quite a few "last calls" at both places. Every once in awhile, we would also head over to the Fox.

Wings and burgers are good. Awhile back when I was going to physical therapy recovering from my torn achilles, one of the trainers had a brother who was GM of the Hooters off the LIE in Hauppauge (closed now). On Saturdays the PT Center closed at one and we would head over to Hooters for beers, wings and college football.
