Whoever wrote that article and claimed Rod Strickland was supposed to be as big as LeBron James is wack.
Mark Jackson was asked who is the greatest NYC point guard ever
Did they tell Mark he could not name himself???

Before my time, but I find it interesting the Knicks had Mark Jackson and Rod Strickland at one point early in Ewing’s career and traded both away.Whoever wrote that article and claimed Rod Strickland was supposed to be as big as LeBron James is wack.
GM Al Bianchi who also got rid of Rick Pitino after 2 exciting seasons is my recollection. Before my time, but I find it interesting the Knicks had Mark Jackson and Rod Strickland at one point early in Ewing’s career and traded both away.
What happened there?
First two names Jackson mentioned were Cousy & Wilkens. Some of us remember names like Cousy and Wilkens.
Coach Rick traded away Mark after he was named ROY……and then drafted Strickland. Before my time, but I find it interesting the Knicks had Mark Jackson and Rod Strickland at one point early in Ewing’s career and traded both away.

Coach Rick did not trade Mark.Coach Rick traded away Mark after he was named ROY……and then drafted Strickland.
Not true. Jackson first tour of duty with Knicks was 87-92 Strickland drafted and traded after 2 seasons with Knicks during that time. Pitino gone before either traded.Coach Rick traded away Mark after he was named ROY……and then drafted Strickland.
Btw: my opinion is that Tiny Archibald was the best.
Sorry. I stand corrected.Coach Rick did not trade Mark.
Mark played for Stu Jackson, John MacLeod and Pat Riley after Pitino’s 2 yr run with the Knicks.
Tiny would have been my choice too.Sorry. I stand corrected.
Jackson was rookie of the year and the Knicks drafted Strickland who played the same position the very next year (Cleveland did the same thing the year before when they drafted Kevin Johnson after Mark Price had a fantastic rookie year). It didn’t work out and Bianchi, who clashed with Pitino over playing style, got his wish when Rick left for Kentucky. He eventually traded Strickland for Mo Cheeks. Before my time, but I find it interesting the Knicks had Mark Jackson and Rod Strickland at one point early in Ewing’s career and traded both away.

Thanks for clarifying I’m glad that I wasn’t completely wrong. There is video of Mark Jackson sitting with Shelton Jones (like Kenny Smith the year before when after he was drafted, he came out and sat with Mark until the Knicks drafted him) waiting for him to be drafted and everyone figuring it would be the Knicks and in turned they drafted Rod.
