Malice in the Palace / Netflix / Peter Vecsey

I watched the event live on t.v., and I felt that Ron got a totally bum wrap for the whole thing. Honestly, I would have done the same thing Ron did if some big oaf poured a beer on me for no reason while I was laying on a table in the stands.

Saw it live and watched the doc last night and don’t fault the players one bit for going up and kicking ass. What they should have mentioned is I’m relatively sure Ron became friends with the guy he beat up and are frends to this day. What asshole woukd waste a beer by throwing it !

Haven't watched it yet but thought it was a water bottle that hit Ron not a beer that was poured on him and the problem was Ron picked on the wrong guy and the guy who grabbed Ron while he was hitting the innocent guy was the real culprit. Did you guys even pay attention to what you were watching? /media/kunena/emoticons/wink.png/media/kunena/emoticons/smile.png/media/kunena/emoticons/grin.png

hmmmm maybe it was water but  I think it was beer but there was a million beers thrown after that which was disturbing on a much bigger level

Writer got the wrong man part right but I think he was going by memory and is wrong about the cup of beer. I've seen many depictions of the incident and pretty sure it was a bottle of water. I'll watch this special anyway and I'll pay attention to this detail and report back later. LOL

It wasn't a water bottle.  It was a blue plastic cup.  Not sure if it had beer or soda or water in it but based on the knucklehead who threw it, beer is a pretty safe bet.

I watched the Quiet Storm: Ron Artest Story on Friday which spends a fair chunk of its two hours on this incident.   Followed that up with Malice in the Palace. Both are worth the time.  Excellent incite into the players involved and the circumstances surrounding the incident and the fallout from it.

I watched the Artest bio and was surprised on the brief summary of his time at SJU, and no mention, at all, of Fran, who recruited him and coached him his frosh year.

The Quiet Storm story really had little mention of Ron’s time at St John’s except for the Mike Jarvis interview .. I thought Jarvis did a pretty good job of describing the Mental Health issues that Ron suffered from while at St John’s .  He mentioned how he had to throw Ron out of a practice because of some issue and Ron threw a tantrum in the Gym and in Jarvis’s office . The Typewriter that was Lou’s Secretary being embedded in the office Wall was another . Yet , Jarvis did point out that at times Ron could be the sweetest , humble and caring person . Which is the dilemma that many with Mental illness face .   It seemed that playing basketball inflamed the inner anxieties within Ron and created boiling points that erupted  in mostly NBA games .   It was certainly apparent that Jermaine O’Neal and Ron were never on the same page as Teammates .   Jermaine believing Ron’s behavior might have cost the Pacers a NBA Championship .   I will remember Ron’s 2 years here as a great player .

My most vivid memory of Ron here was in a "L".

He almost single-handedly willed us to an overtime "W" against mighty duke at the Garden at a matinee game.

He left his heart out there on the court, forever a warrior and an all time great Johnny in my mind.

I think in the post-game presser Coach K couldn't get over how well played the game was and specifically Ron's heart and talent.

One of my favorite games that I have ever been to, even in a loss. What a game! I was about 12 years old but still have great memories of the shot he hit to send it to overtime. Also love the fact that the game is on youtube now and can watch it whenever I want.
