Make Your Voices Heard

Most of us are upset at the direction of the program in at least some regard. I urge everyone to e-mail these three folks to make their voices heard. It is time that all 3 of these folks receive expansive feedback on the lack of accountability and progress that has impeded this program for years.

Funny stuff Theo!
First off, leave poor Anton out of this! He wasn't involved in our recent foibles.
As for President Bobby and Joey, they got us into the latest cluster fck so why would they be eager to accept responsibility for their decisions?
As an avid reader of this message board you already know we are upset and yes, some of us have already expressed our disappointment. But in reality this is all Mullin's call because he is not getting fired. Some, including yourself, will be happy to see him walk away. Should a catastrophic string of consecutive losses occur beating even last year's dubious losing record, I expect just that. Should that happen, were St. John's not to hire the best available coach in America, they should fire the current president. I have been underwhelmed by his leadership to date.
The funny thing is that you and the other young republicans were happy with Mullin's hire and a few of the "Mavens" touted him as a savior and how lucky we were that he would come to our rescue. What a difference 18 short months makes.
Like the end of the Lavin era, beware of what you wish for! As for Mullin's future you and your buddies should remember, whatever happens "it's not personal, it's only business".

Idiotic post, Mullin will get and deserves another 2 years to turn it around. He's got 3 maybe 4 big east players on his roster. Clark Simon Brown coming in with Ponds and Lovett.

Ummmm, I'm a republican?? I'm pretty much the most liberal and progressive St. John's fan you will ever find lol (a "godless bleeding heart liberal", as the Bible-boppers would probably say).

When Mullin was hired I took a cautiously optimistic approach which did approach full optimism when he hired his initial staff, although I did at the time say I would have preferred an on-court/development guy with more experience with St. Jean. The recruiting efforts left me very optimistic especially coming into this year. My expectation coming into this year was 5 or 6 conference wins.

When Mullin hired Richmond to replace Slice, I did express real concern about the hire and with regard to a total lack of experience on the bench. When the poor results started pouring in, my opinion of the job Mullin and his staff have done did in fact change. That is allowed, you know. Someone (or a group of people) holding to a certain belief despite facts rolling in telling them otherwise is the exact opposite of being progressive, and is partially what has kept the school stuck in the stone age in many regards. I am not asking for Chris Mullin to be fired at this point and never have, so I am not sure where you got that fallacy from.

As for the call for feedback to Goff, it is indeed not his fault, but it's important for him to hear the feedback from the folks who buy tickets, gear and donate to the athletic department.

As for Joe Oliva, lets go over all the highlights of his one year as interim AD:

-He negotiated a fully guaranteed, 5 year deal for 500k per year with an ASSISTANT COACH who was let go one year later.

-Kassoum Yakwe, whose school was under review by the NCAA, went to school only about an hour away from SJU. Yet it was KANSAS who sent compliance staff to the school multiple times to get ahead of the matter with Diallo. The only reason Yakwe was eligible last year was because of the work that KANSAS did.

-Then Oliva went ahead and sent out a press release to the NCAA threatening them with regards to Marcus Lovett's case but rolled over like a dead dog and never followed through.

-Mullin let Slice ago, which was almost perfect SJU-karma for being foolish enough for signing a freakin assistant coach to a fully guaranteed 5 year deal for 500k per. Oliva & Co. decided to try to fight it out with lawyers for months, failed (of course), so they fired him with cause which will likely be followed up with a very well-deserved lawsuit from Slice if they can't negotiate down the buyout.

-Oliva then failed to get his coach to hire an assistant with any experience. No backbone shown at all.

And in regards to Gempesaw, I have been mixed on him. He has certainly been a step up in the basketball/athletics regard from Harrington. He actually shows up and he cares, which is much more than can be said for his predecessor. However, he has enabled all of the above failings from the athletic department. There has been no backbone shown from either Gempesaw or Oliva. Despite what you claim, 72, there IS something that someone other than Mullin can do. His bosses can show a spine and require him to make staff changes. After the season it is time that someone stands up up Mullin and there is a real system of checks and balances. He must make staff changes if this season continues down the road most of us see it going down.

If you don't want to e-mail them, then fine, don't. But for those that do, the contact information is above.

And yes, with regards to Lavin, Mullin, and whoever comes after Mullin, it is always about results and never personal. I do respect the job Mullin is trying to do much more than the last few years of Lavin's regime though, because at least Mullin has been present at offseason workouts, on the recruiting trail and is showing up. I will be very open in admitting I have no respect for the job Steve Lavin did here in his final few years because his effort showed no respect for the job or the program.

I sent an email Sunday evening, Heard back from Goff and Oliva yesterday.

Theo is right on with everything.

Goff needs to learn or find out what has happened here the last 10 years. No better way than hearing from the fans.

Oliva and "Bobby" need to hear they are not doing a good job from paying customers.

Mullin needs to have a check and balances as Theo said and he should not be able to do whatever he wants. He has not earned that right as a head coach with zero experience.

Trump needs to have a check and balances as Theo said and he should not be able to do whatever he wants. He has not earned that right as a president with zero experience.

Agreed. He needs an assistant with presidential experience like Jimmy Carter to help him learn the ropes.

you and the other young Republicans

I can understand the confusion here. You are trying to make St John's great again. No worries, that other guy isn't a Republican either.

Theo a "godless bleeding heart liberal", no wonder your always looking for "FREE"" tickets. :)
Post of the week :)

Actually Liberals are always looking to give away "FREE" tickets which pisses off conservatives because it lowers the value of their tickets. ;)

Theo, I don't know your political inclinations. I just substituted young republicans for Aholes. Those Aholes were all in with the Mullin hire. The banguets, photo ops, the coronation, the post coronation banguets, followed by more photo ops. Why would I use such a pejorative? Because I knew you all would be the first to bail out on the guy when things got ugly.
Very few fans with any basketball sense supported this hire. Some for the same reasons we didn't support Steve Lavin's hire. Steve had been out of the profession for years because he was damaged goods and none of the top programs pursued him. Mullin was an even bigger gamble because he was what Forrest Gump described as "a box of chocolates. You never know what you're gonna get."
Do you, Buck and friends now think Oliva and Gempasaw don't know what everyone sees happening? These are the same suspects that orchestrated the current conundrum! You obviously know that of course.
I wasn't averse to not renewing Lavin's contract as long as St. John's had a few top national coaches in consideration. Like the search after the Jarvis firing, I was a strong supporter of Bob McKillop or someone of that competence. The Mullin hiring came out of left field and was orchestrated. There was never any intention to negotiate with Lavin. The internal politics already decided his fate.
Here's what I think may happen. You are correct in that some people of influence will force Bobby and company to meet and evaluate Mullin's performance. They will recommend changes. Mullin will not take it well. He didn't take it well in the pros and his air of superiority certainly will not allow him to take it from some college administrators. If, as you say, they show some backbone and exert their authority, he will walk. It will serve as a tremendous setback for the program and for the reputation of St. John's in the Big East Conference. Recruits will be lost. Players will transfer. A scenario much worse than when Lavin was fired.
What should happen now is to see if Mullin can sign ANY impact recruits in the 2018 class. Like Lavin, if he cannot get the players, he MUST be let go if he produces another cellar dweller finish.
At that point only succesful experienced coaches need apply. There are plenty of them. Hire the best available and don't spare expense. Do not get the elderly Louie involved. Do not listen to current sociopaths surrounding the program. Get input from the top evaluators.
If they fail to do that St. John's and DePaul will be condemned to be the bottom feeders they have become much like Fordham in the A10.

Mostly what everyone is saying on here. The staff appears to be unprepared to do the job due to a lack of experience. More leadership needed by the head coach instead of St. Jean.

The response was appreciate the support and passion

But he got us to the NCAA 2 times in 5 years and one of those years he was out sick. Dislike him if you choose....but he has a proven record of success in the coaching ranks......something we haven't see since Louie left.
