Make up your best starting SJU team .

Glad you included Johnson. One of the most overlooked SJ stars. IMO, very few better than him since he joined the team in 1974

I'd agree with Mullin, Ponds, Berry, Sealy and for the 5th I'd have Sonny Dove slightly over Mel Davis.

Being old like Sam I Am I'll include Tony Jackson along side his teammate LeRoy Ellis, the best authentic center SJU has had in sixty years, with Walter Berry at the other forward. All three scored in the twenties and grabbed rebounds in the teens.
Put Mullin in the backcourt ,who with Jackson gives you the two best shooters to ever play for SJU on the floor and add Ponds. I think there were four or five better point guards at SJU than Mark Jackson who had a great pro career but was not as productive at the college level.

thanks enright. thats the best team we could have. forgot ellis who had a great college and pro career with the lakers for so many years. that team could shoot and rebound and with jackson and mullin and the 3 point line might have set a few scoring records.

Ellis & Tony Jackson were just before my time as college players so will defer to you guys that they deserve it before Sealy & Sonny Dove who played on first Johnny team I followed and is one of my two or three all time favorite Johnnies.

Tony Jackson, Mullin, Berry, Artest & Mark Jackson

Sealy would be in, but needed a PG

To put together a starting 5, you have to consider position and who would work well together. I would want the senior version of Mark Jackson running the show, He just had an outstanding senior year, and really knew how to lead a team. Also was a winner throughout his college career. Tony Jackson at the other guard based on what I heard about him.and Mullin SF. I did not see Ellis in college either, but makes sense for him at center, although I could live with the Billy Paultz I saw play. You can't go wrong with Berry at PF. I loved Mel Davis, but Berry was college player of the year, and that carries a lot of weight. Only problem with this team is a lack of quickness. I did not pick Ponds because he has not had a winning season yet. Plus, there are enough scorers on my team and Mark was a pure point and distributor.
