A lot of people on this board don't agree that we can go 9-9, lose the first round of the BET and still make the tournament, but the man who knows more about this than just about anyone says otherwise:

@ESPNLunardi says if St. John's beats Xavier & Georgetown at MSG this week, "Steve Lavin's boys are going back to the NCAA Tournament.'

So there you have it. Need to go 2-2. He wouldn't make a statement like this unless he felt very confident about it.

I agree with this. Getting those two wins will be very hard though.

To be clear, lunardi is not saying 2-2 the rest if the way gets us in. Who we beat matters. I suspect if we split the home games this week , lose to 'nova and win number 2 comes at Marquette, we'd be in a precarious position heading into the big east tournament.

Resume wise it would be one less top 50 win, but RPI wise I'm pretty sure we'd have the same RPI either way. Either way I guarantee we'd still have more top 50 wins than other bubble teams (4+).

EDIT: Plus, if we lose to Marquette that would be one our worst losses of the season. I'd probably take 2-2 with wins over GTown and Xavier over 2-2 with wins over Marquette and another team, but ultimately I don't think it makes much of a difference. I may be wrong though.

Two games at the garden to clinch a bid. Win tonight and that Georgetown game becomes the biggest game of Lavins tenure with his players IMO.

Well these two would be resume builders. You might as well say that if we win any two of G'town, Nova, or Xavier and we'll be in. But for good measure I'd want them to win away against Marquette. All in all a very tall order, but we are in the final stages of pre qualifying for dancing with the stars.

We've only had about 5 of those so far this year :)

That's pretty close to being 100% accurate.. And, a equal amount for each of the last 2 seasons, as it relates to gaining a NCAA BID and, not a NIT appearance again. How have we responded in the past? Not good.

Beating G'tpwn is huge.. They are IMHO,the 2nd best BE team and are on the cusp of being in the Top 25.. We don't figure to beat Nova in Philly , barring a near miracle and better get the W on Saturday and pretty much wrap up a berth in the Dance.. Marquette at Marquette is potentially a trap game, if we needed it to clinch a berth.. Beating G'town and Xavier in same week, I think makes us TOURNEY BOUND, even, if we lost to Nova and Marquette..BET IS MORE FOR SEEDING than eligibility, to my thinking.

WIN ALL 3 GAMES REMAINING and we crack the top 25 ourselves.. Lavin should write that on a blackboard somewhere.

I could see us winning the remaining 3 and I could also see us losing the remaining 3.

Still elated over last night but I'd be lying if I said I'm not on pins and needles going into saturday.

If we beat grown I'll exhale a little
