Lou Carnesecca - The Godfather of St. John's

Thanks for sharing.

Brought back my best memories of St John's.

Also makes me think we have never replaced Louie. Maybe CM can be the guy. We will need to be patient. CM will need to be patient and the players will need to be patient. We are...

Thanks for that great clip. I have been searching for the last few seconds of the Big East championship win, and couldn't find it. Now I got to enjoy it all over again. Which makes me wonder: Where were all the posters that night?

I was with Al Gore working on inventing the internet.

I was sitting right behind the basket where Rowan scored. Top five SJU moment.

I had Season and BE Tickets back in the Day. Use to get a couple of Hotel Rooms in Manhattan for the earlier BE but, we all went home after Friday Night's game and scalped the Sat Finals Tickets and watched the game at home on TV.. Guys, I was with were Nova and Rutgers Guy. Poor soul he was , Scarlet Nights never got out of Opening Round. We would make the Rounds at Runyons and PJ Clarke's after the games and closed them.

When I coached a Catholic High School team in the city we were in need of a practice facility for a short time. Louie was kind enough to get us Flushing Armory which was being used one day by the Johnnies. Interestingly enough Louie
ran the practice while Lapchick sat and watched. Just a few nice memories.

One thing i think about a lot is who will replace Looie as the finest ambassador this school will ever have? I really want Chris to take up the mantel and i have a feeling that one day that torch will pass to him also and he will be great in that role also. Of course he's not Looie but just being Chris may be good enough.

That's interesting to speculate on but I'm going to enjoy every minute we have with Louie.

Beast, when Chris was hired I felt the same thing, Chris will be SJU's ambassador for the future( the role Lou has done with elegance and grace for the last 50 years)

Since Lou has lived a very long life(it will be 25 years since he retired this April), I always felt he may have retired too soon, Lou could have coached another 4-5 years IMO.-He had great energy at the time.

The 1992-1993 Brian had was an NCAA team, Felipe and Zendon were in the pipeline and maybe under Lou's guidance the winning would have continued, Lopez and Hamiliton would have coexisited better and perhaps overall the team plays better and we do not have the long NCAA drought we had in the 90's.

Lou loves basketball and coaching. If he felt it was time to retire than it was time.

I love Lou, but I cringe every-time I hear "It's all about the players". Its mostly about the players yes, but good X's and O's are always behind the most successful programs. I always loved the Herb Brooks saying "Its not about getting the best players, its about getting the right ones."

The goal should not be to make the guy at the end of the bench better than Mullin. It should be to find 12 guys that play as a cohesive team able to beat anyone one using fundamentals, skill, and hard work.
