Great piece on Looie. Think St. John's, and you think Lou Carnesecca. The program would not have been the same without him. His sideline dance when Berry blocked The Pearl's last second shot was one of my favorite Redmen memories.

My fondest memory and why he had a lasting impression on me was the first time I met him. I was a freshman and had recently started my first student job in the athletic dept. I was trying to make my way around Alumni Hall running errands, paperwork etc.

Coach was retired for one season at this point but was in Alumni Hall what seemed like daily. I was in hallway, looking around. He walked by and asked if I needed help. I quickly introduced myself and who I was looking for. Coach pointed me in the right direction and I thanked him. Then he extended his hand and said something like... "My pleasure, and by the way Welcome to St. John's, young man!" He smiled with a little pat on my shoulder and went about his way. Saw him quite a bit after that and a few times early on make a few jokes asking if I was still lost from his directions..That first meeting was memorable for me.

In watching that clip, it looked like the sweater shown that's in the lobby display case is a replica. Does anyone know if the original is the Hall of Fame ?

Think coach Lou used to even joke about his sweater making the HOF before he did.

Maybe Coach Anderson , a dapper dresser for sure , could design his own Sweater for next season . It would be a terrific statement as the Program moves forward . And , if the School was smart , it would offer the Sweater as part of its Merchandise online .
