Looie is such an icon. Even at 91, if you ask most New Yorkers to name 3 people associated with St. John's, Looie's name would likely come up most frequently. Certainly Mullin is another name that would come up right away.
What the University needs to do is leverage Mullin's appeal to the university community at large. As part of his considerable salary, he should spend some time being present to students, such as being a speaker at accepted students day, speaking at orientation, or at special events. I know he is present at many alumni gatherings, golf outings, etc, but he has a high value to the university's students that just isn't being leveraged sufficiently.
If he is more present to students and prospective students, it can only help enrollment and attendance at games.
Maybe the old "Lavinwood" student section, could be resurrected as "Mo's neighborhood: Brooklyn in da house" or something catchier. A small but solid number of mostly white male students are loyal fanatics of the program, but that could easily be doubled or tripled with a little work.
I know winning and basketball comes first, but Mullin, like Looie, is a university asset, and should be utilized as such.

Bobby G. is smart enough to know that each student is worth about $200,000 plus to the university. A single event , like accepted students day, where Mullin speaking for 15 minutes could help influence 15 or 20 students or more to attend SJU could be worth $1 million to the school.
