Only one commitment to St. John's from that long list and we are only 5 miles from the LI border.

Kids want to get away.
Can't blame them these days.

But tons of those kids chose schools right here on LI. Guess they either want to stay right at home or go far far away. LOL

Take out Women's Lax, Field Hockey, Men's Volleyball and football as we don't have a team in those sports. Then if they picked LI schools, note that the only schools on LI (and I am including Brooklyn and Queens) that are DI are St. John's, St. Francis, LIU, Hofstra and Stony Brook.

That narrow it down. Add that Hofstra and Stony Brook have better Men's Lax programs and the creme of LI is not normally coming here. St. John's picked up a couple of baseball players from LI last year including a Shortstop from Oceanside who was off to a fantastic start when the season was cancelled.

Some years it ebbs and flows. I wouldn't have minded getting one or two LIers in basketball from a particular school in Brookville though.

Adelphi ran this great ad once about two roommates chatting one afternoon, and one wishing for his mom's home cooking. They chat about it, and then one kid says to the other, let's go, we can get there by dinner. The next scene is them sitting at one kid's family dinner table, getting treated royally by one kid's family. The caption was "Adelphi University - stay close, go far"

Great ad. Lots of local kids dorm at Hofstra, Molloy, Adelphi AND St. John's.

When SJU built the dorms, I think they placed a limit that a kid had to live 100 miles away to apply for the dorms, but when not enough remote applications resulted, they opened the dorms to local kids.

Now I believe we are pretty well represented with kids from across the country. JSJ may know better though.
