LJ Figueroa - NY Post article

Wish him the best, and still wish he had stayed. (Especially since I got Oregon as a long shot to win it all) Think maybe we would have been the ones in the sweet 16 instead. Oh well, spilt milk at this point.

I actually wish him well, but am not happy with the success of his team.   For the 2nd time in 3 seasons,a significant player left us only to go deep into the tournament with his new team.

That fact isn't lost on our current roster or recruits.   We don't need the perception that there are better places to be when march rolls around.

We haven't won a single ncaa game in 20 years, and we must break that streak soon if the program is to grow.    That's the only significant multi year streak that interests me right now, and not the little significance of plus .500 record.

This is frustrating. Last year he was constantly forcing bad shots and not playing in the system on offense. He goes to Oregon and decides to play a secondary role and play within the team system. If he had stayed and played with that team attitude, we would have made the Tournament and could have made a run ourselves.

Figgy was a major loss to the Program. Anyone thinking otherwise isn’t being realistic . He is a big time player and a reliable scorer , defender , rebounder .  With him and Julian in the Starting lineup would have been worth 35-40 points a game , regularly .  I never got the idea that LJ and CMA were on the same page and that happens , when a player isn’t recruited by the Coach . Nobody ‘s fault .

Product of the environment. He played within the system his first year here as he was the 3rd option on offense and thrived. Last year he became the first option and that isn’t who he is, forced him into too many unfortunate situations that don’t suit his style of play. He went to Oregon where he can play that Robin role and he is doing it well.

Figueroa is a solid player and that was never an issue.  He's always been a "Robin" IMO, and certainly excelled at it.  He's like the third option at best at Oregon and Figueroa, like he did his first season at St. John's, plays that role rather well.

I'm going to respectfully disagree with this assessment.  LJ & Champ play the same position.  There's not enough minutes in the game for them both to average 18-20ppg.  Especially with LJ's horrible shot selection.

I wish him well, and liked him a lot when he was here, but I don't think it's a coincidence that Champ became 1st team all BE and led the league in scoring AFTER LJ left town.

IMVHO Tarik and LJ's tourney runs are about number 148 and 176 on the list of reasons people have that perception.

Respectfully, don’t think Champ played 50 minutes all season at SF.

Can we stop this respectfully stuff?!?!

Just disagree /media/kunena/emoticons/wink.png/media/kunena/emoticons/silly.png

It does depend on what position you consider SF to be.  In a traditional sense the SF is a 3, but in CMA's system and as played by the team 90% of the time this year the SF is a 4.  The 3 in said system is a 2nd shooting/wing guard most of the time.

Perfectly said Dink. Think LJ was forced to try and be Batman last season, and  I think he was expecting he'd have to do the same this season. Of course no one would have expected Champ to blow up like he did. LJ found the perfect situation for him. Still don't like how he left or that he left, but can't fault him for his choice of schools.
