Just picked up a copy of the 2023 preview issue. Kind of a mixed bag in terms of the league and St. John's. They're picking 6 Big East teams to make the NCAA Tournament, but St. John's (picked 7th) isn't one of them. They also rank the Big East 6th overall behind the Pac-12, but have Creighton projected as a Final Four team. Well,...as they say, "that's why they play the game" so let's get ready to tip things off soon.

Too early to tell anything about anything, but if we don’t develop two three point shooters, we will be in trouble. That being said, I like this team, and look forward to them surprising everyone this season, and I am especially looking forward to seeing Nyiwe and Keita’s development.

Im starting to think that the offensive power of this team may be in the inside / post up game. Of course to keep from the double teams, I agree that a few three point shooters will need to show up. I believe that between an improved Soriano and Stanley, the team may be most productive in the paint and strong on the offensive boards. If Posh and Jones can contribute from the outside, we may have something here, Then again, pre season last season, I thought the team had the makings of a league contender so what do I know. Regardless, it may all come down to the defense. I know everyone on face value loves the constant full court pressure but where has that gotten the team in the past? Hopefully Anderson learned from his poor defensive statistics and is making the necessary adjustments.

I think inside success can open up 3 Point opportunities for Jones, Posh and perhaps Pinzon. They will have make them at a reasonable % and not fall in love with them when not falling. I still believe layups and getting to the FT line is the most dependable strategy.

As for high pressure defense, it’s a very fine line - without 110% commitment it can fall apart and result in less than optimal matchups.

THE ALMANAC released today and it has us finishing 8th in the Big East and in the 'Next Four Out' section of their bracketology
