I entered the US Army on the day after graduation from StJ. Back then, almost every male who was healthy had to enlist one way or the other.
I miss it too on may occasions; I was fit and active all the time, hung out every day with 100 or so of the funniest guys I've ever met in my life, learned to complain, in a creative manner, about everything that ever happened, good and bad, day in and day out, and actually learned a craft that was interesting and challenging, albeit useless today. (morse code intercept and decoding).
Given the opportunity to recommend the Army to anyone who is bright and motivated, I would every time.
The all volunteer Army is getting a gem of a performer in Lavor who will add to our nation's military skill set. He will also find he is now in an organization, not unlike his StJ's basketball team, in fitness, motivation, skills, attitude, will to win, and character.
I believe it was Aristotle that claimed the perfect life was 20 years as a student, 20 as a warrior, and 20 as a politician. Lavor is well on his way! God Speed!! He will have a ball.
