Lavin on Adam and the Bull Radio in Cleveland

Great find Moose. Love hearing Coach. Do we get a top 10 class with Obekpa/Shepard/Sampson/Sanchez? Michigan is #11 on espn.com and they have 3 top 100 recruits. Always hoping Coach has an ace up his sleeve.

Again this was before Gathers. I think with Gathers in the fold Top 5 could have been possible. However now with him out Top 10 would have to be the ultimate goal. Unless of course Lavin has something up his sleeve that we don't know about.

just who does Lavin think he is going to sign...

I hate to be a pessimist, but at this point I haven't heard any of our targets have a heavy STJ lean...

Obekpa seems wide open

Sampon has de-committed and is really not showing much love in interviews or articles I read

Shepard - We just popped on his list a few weeks ago, and I haven't seen much on him outside of some initial interest and that we had offered.

and I'm not even sure who else we are recruiting.

I do think that if Harkless declares for the draft Sampson will probably come here knowing he is about to get a ton of PT at a spot that we just turned out a pro on.

I think Sampson knows he will get a ton of PT either way

We don't even need a top 10 class this year. We just need to real good big forwards in addition to Branch.

Exactly, i'm not expecting that I just want a few solid pieces. We have our core now we need to continue to grow around that. Our top classes will come back again in 2013 & 2014, this years its about filling our needs

Keep in mind that there are some people who think that Sampson is being pushed by his coach in a certain direction.

If true, and if Sampson actually still loves us, it stands to reason that he would keep his love low key until the person doing the pushing has less control over him. When does Brewster's season end?

Very good point LJ. We probably should wait to see what happens when Brewster season ends and Jakarr is done. Let's remember his coach is also Brewster's Dean of Admissions which should say something about the power of the bball coach there.

Adam the Bull was a recent WFAN host but now works in the Clevel
Lav joined him on 2/3 (mind you its before Gathers to Baylor)

Nice interview Like what he said about next recruiting class could be top10 or top 5 Hope he does it

Love Coach Lavin and his optimism, but I'm afraid he's starting to sound a bit like a snake oil salesman with this talk of having a top 5 or 10 recruiting class. Not only have we not received any critically needed commitments to date (except for Jamal Branch, which, I agree, is a great pick-up), but the fact is we've had nothing but decommitments and no one we're interested in is talking us up. Again, I'm thrilled to have him at our helm -- and no doubt he spoiled me (as well as all of us) with last year's accomplishments -- but I'd sure feel a whole lot better if he would reel in someone shortly and if next year's roster were lengthening instead of shrinking.

Actually he is Associate Director of Admissions, which he shares with 2 others who then reports to the Director of Admission. Brewster is no different than most other "like" schools, where the coaches are involved in other areas of the school besides sports.

I might be wrong, not too long ago there were local coaches who kept their kids away from St. John's? If so that's about the same as Smith (except the perception is he pushes his kids to Kansas) So why should this shock us?

Its embarrassing he's allowed to coach. The fact that he also shares an academic title is pathetic.
