Lavin & pals dine with Barclays CEO

Sightings: St. John's coach Steve Lavin, his special assistant Gene Keady and former St. John's star Tarik Turner, now the analyst on the Red Storm radio network, dining with Barclays Center CEO Brett Yormark at Campagnola on First Avenue.

The Johnnies will play one game at Barclays this season and likely will make at least one annual appearance at the new basketball cathedral in Brooklyn

Any chance vindictive Dolan kicks us out of the Garden? We could than become a tenant of Barclays in Brooklyn where we do have a campus and didn't we originate in Brooklyn.

Downtown Brooklyn 1926 at least 10 stories. School of Commerce was on the 7th floor and the SoL was 3rd floor  based on 50 year old memories

dolan is a businessman. he loves collecting rent. we can't tell him not to feature syracuse or duke in a college game...and he can't tell us not to play at barclays.

I pointed out a few months ago that Cuse just has managed to play games in all the tournaments that play at the Garden. Zero to do with Dummy Dolan. Just shrewd on their part to get the extra exposure.

On the other hand STJ should use Barclays as leverage. Dolan would be hard pressed to turn down some ultimatums from STJ regarding outside games because 8 STJ games outweighs 1-2 other games and the negative press of losing STJ.

This years Temple / Syracuse game on Dec 22nd at the Garden, stupid name or not (Gotham Classic), would suggest otherwise

Well my post insinuated a post I made before this years schedule was made.

Pretty sure that would be the first time ever that it was a non tournament game. Someone would have to dig up my old post to confirm but it seemed every year they just managed to play the right tournament. Some years two. (Jimmy V, Coaches v. Cancer, NIT)

St. Johns original location in Brooklyn was at Lewis Ave and Willoughby . It was in St. John the Baptist parish and included a grammar school , St. Johns Prep and St. Johns University . Our first gym was DeGray gym in the Willoughby Ave building . We would later move to downtown Brooklyn but played our games in Degray until we moved to Hillcrest . In the year prior to Alumni Hall opening we played some games in local public high school gyms .

Good point, you're talking about the past and I'm alluding to the future. Now that Syracuse isn't a BE team I expect that this type of game will become an annual event.

Exactly.

And they still can try to get into those 'tournaments' I mentioned. So they still could end up getting more than 1 game a year at MSG if they play their cards right.

I just don't see them playing more than 1 solo game like this one you pointed out with Temple.

And on a separate note while it can be pricey Campagnola has real good food
