Knicks Trade

Great move to get Derrick Rose
Lopez is easily replaceable - several free agent options available
Jerian Grant has potential but needs a lot of work/seasoning
Jose Calderon has seen better days - great salary dump
So, the Knicks traded three disposable parts for a great player (if healthy)
Rose is going into a contract year - if he was ever motivated to play, this is the time
Hoping Rose has a great year, loves it in NY and signs a long term contract next spring

Getting Rose was not a horrible move but it is certainly no sure thing; beside the obvious injury bug he averaged less than 3 foul shots a game in just over 30+ minutes a game in the new "hands off" NBA; which leads me to believe he is no longer the rim attacking player he once was. He was never a great shooter and throw in a less than 2 to 1 assist to turnover rate. I have often posted I am not a stat guy so I am being a bit hypocritical but I have seen too much of bringing the past their prime, injury prone player on the NY sport scene. I do agree it was for sure worth the gamble though, didn't give up much, players are not clamoring to come to the Knicks and Anthony is not getting any younger and is going nowhere.

He is certainly an upgrade over what they had at the PG spot
The cost to get him was more than reasonable
He is in a contract year and should be motivated to play well
On paper, the team is much better now than before the trade
This was a great move by the Knicks - low cost and great potential upside

worst case scenario he gets hurt and sucks and the knicks suck. Without him they were going to suck anyway. Could end up being a home run but knowing the knicks I see a future injury but I like the deal a lot

You definitely make that trade if you are knicks. Best player and actually got more cap flexibility in the process.

The flexibility of this trade is great. I like the move for the Knicks. Getting rid of the Calderon contract is fantastic. If Rose hurts his knee early in the season, then Melo will surely acquiesce to being traded. Then you re-boot with mega free cap space.

The pitfalls:
Melo is ball dominant, Rose is ball dominant, and playing for a new contract... But the development of Porzingis has to be the #1 priority for the year. So does signing Rose inhibit that?

Another key pitfall is not to pay Rose too large of a contract after this season if he makes all the way through without hurting himself.. The team does not need an Amare Stoudemire 2.0; I could easily see that happening - that's a disaster waiting to happen.

I don't think Chicago would have parted with him if they weren't 100 percent sure he was done. His stats last season are still better than anything the Knicks have had lately, but I don't think his knees allow him to touch 20 ppg ever again.

The trade will look great this year, the Knicks will resign Rose to a huge deal after next season and then he will get hurt again.

I was saying the Knicks gotta go atleast 42-40 before this deal, that's a 25 game improvement. This year Detroit was the 44-38 as the 8th seed so 42 might not be good enough to be a playoff team, but still how wouldn't you take a 25 game improvement in just 2 years.
With the addition of Rose, I'm saying atleast an extra 5 wins which is 47-35 which could be the 6th or 7th seed. Rose, Carmelo, and Porzingis nice!!!!!!!!!

Knicks are telling Rose that they'll pursue Durant. Then all they'll need is a center and they'll be set.

And believe it or not the Knicks will have a second round draft pick next year. Knowing their brain trust they will probably get rid of it tonight.

If the league didn't have restrictions on how many years in a row you can trade your first round pick, I am convinced that the Knicks would never draft in round one.

Yeah, and I'm thinking I'll pursue Kate Upton.

But they will pursue Durant. They won't get him but they will make a legit offer.

Same with me, alas.

According to Adrian Wojnarowski of The Vertical, Durant's representatives are finalizing meetings with 6 teams: Oklahoma, Golden State, San Antonio, Miami, LA Clippers and the Boston Celtics. Thunders still the favorite but Warriors have Durant's attention.

He should sign a one-year deal with the Spurs or Golden State for below market rate, get his championship, and decide from there where he really wants to be.
