Not a golf fan at all but a general comment on the “world today”.
My 7 year old grandson plays on his town travel baseball team which is wholly instructional. Coaches pitch, three coaches are on the field when your team is in the field, giving real time instruction on where to throw the ball, how to backup, covering bases, etc.
There is one ump, stationed behind the pitcher.
Last Sunday, playing a neighboring town, which is twice the size of my grandson’s, a few of their fans were somewhat loud and getting heated because the game was much closer than they expected. Bottom of the last inning, going in down 5, my grandson’s team had scored three, had a man on first, one out.
Batter hit a ball up the middle, 2nd baseman made a nice backhand pick up, swiped at the runner going to second, the runner swerved, avoided the tag, ump called him safe, batter beat the throw to first.
About 4 or 5 people (a small % of the people there) jumped out of their lawn chairs, berated the ump that the runner went out of the baseline and wound up on the edge of the field arguing, refusing to move. The two coaches and other spectators from both teams begged them to stop and finally the coaches mutually decided to call the game, calling it a tie.
Someone had called the cops and an officer showed up but by then the coaches and people from both teams had taken control and people were leaving.
Just an absolute $hit$how and the only small saving grace is that there was really no movement toward confrontations that potentially could have escalated into violence. But the kids on both teams WERE having fun until the worst thing to ever impede on kids playing, adults, took over.
The comparison to this thread, a small number of a$$holes can ruin a great experience for everyone and give a black eye to everyone in attendance.
