Keegan Bradley

Not a golf fan at all but a general comment on the “world today”.
My 7 year old grandson plays on his town travel baseball team which is wholly instructional. Coaches pitch, three coaches are on the field when your team is in the field, giving real time instruction on where to throw the ball, how to backup, covering bases, etc.
There is one ump, stationed behind the pitcher.
Last Sunday, playing a neighboring town, which is twice the size of my grandson’s, a few of their fans were somewhat loud and getting heated because the game was much closer than they expected. Bottom of the last inning, going in down 5, my grandson’s team had scored three, had a man on first, one out.
Batter hit a ball up the middle, 2nd baseman made a nice backhand pick up, swiped at the runner going to second, the runner swerved, avoided the tag, ump called him safe, batter beat the throw to first.
About 4 or 5 people (a small % of the people there) jumped out of their lawn chairs, berated the ump that the runner went out of the baseline and wound up on the edge of the field arguing, refusing to move. The two coaches and other spectators from both teams begged them to stop and finally the coaches mutually decided to call the game, calling it a tie.
Someone had called the cops and an officer showed up but by then the coaches and people from both teams had taken control and people were leaving.
Just an absolute $hit$how and the only small saving grace is that there was really no movement toward confrontations that potentially could have escalated into violence. But the kids on both teams WERE having fun until the worst thing to ever impede on kids playing, adults, took over.
The comparison to this thread, a small number of a$$holes can ruin a great experience for everyone and give a black eye to everyone in attendance.

I agree with Tom Watson. The Ryder Cup was a black eye for the US. One of the first things they teach about the game is how conduct yourself on the course and how to respect your opponent. Honesty while playing the game when competitive including self-reporting your miss hits/rules violations. Throwing a drink at Rory McElroy's wife was totally despicable and the person who did it should have been arrested.
Agree it was a very big black eye.

But one technicality. The drink wasn't thrown at her by an American fan. It was actually from a European who had his arm around other European fans and you can see Rory walk by cheering and getting them all excited and the drink was launched into the air as they were jumping around. I was actually on 17 green right near there and there is also video to support it was accidental.

That said there is another new video floating just seconds before where at the top of the hill near 18 tee as he walked down he was called a certain word and he immediately turns, points out the fan to cop and tells the copy to throw him out.

Saw that last video you are talking about. That was disgraceful

There is no defending the behavior of the fans. I am just surprised this many are surprised at the fans’ horrible behavior.

We have seen it everywhere in all sports. And this is not unique to America. Sports fans have become a worldwide disgrace. Especially when you mix culture, politics, history, and of course alcohol. Why would golf escape it?

At least McIlroy could have a fan kicked out for vulgarity. Most other sports cannot, and us fans are left having to deal with trash fans.

Now, get off my lawn…

As for Tom Watson and many others talking about the crowds behavior. I hate when fans act like that shit. But I also hate it when the majority get lumped together like that and of course majority are not like that. Wish they would just acknowledge that before saying it as if all fans were terrible. Tom Watson who is my favorite golfer of all time I don’t like his post on it making it sound like the entire crowd was like that.
Exactly this... with crowds of 50k+... booze... plus getting our asses handed to us... all you need is a very small % of the pop to "ruin" an event...

Its the words/ actions of what would you say... 50? 100? maybe more... people that get all the coverage now... regardless- its <1% of the crowd...

Let's stop generalizing.... there were some individuals there that were dressed head to toe in the Red White and Blue with a sweet Eagle hat... 15+ deep... that were nothing but respectful...
