Please take a minute to remember all those that lost their lives during the D-Day invasion.
R.I.P. to all those brave souls
Thanks Jersey Shore.
On the Yankee game tonight in Toronto, Canada, the announcers mentioned Yogi Berra landing on the Normandy beaches and the Canadians landing along with the GIs. So many pro athletes served during WWII and other wars.
Blessings to every veteran of every era. Sports are fun. Wars are reality. Let’s always keep perspective.
I believe it was Michael Kay, interviewing yogi on yes, asked if he was afraid of getting shot. "No, not at all " Before Kay could finish a sentence about how brave Yogi was, Berra continued, "I was afraid of drowning"
Strategically launched on a pitch black, moonless night, troops stepped off launch boats with 80 pound packs strapped to them. If you were in 4 feet of water or less you were safe. 12 feet and you were dead.
Yogi, one of the greatest Yankees and greatest generation too
Yeah, i think some guys had up to 100 pounds of stuff strapped to them. Some landing cruiser captains panicked under the heavy fire and opened the landing decks too soon, leading to many guys drowning.
Plus, it was hell on the beaches when they got there!
One irony is that Hitler was fooled by Allied communications and thought we might invade at Calais and so had to split his forces between the two coastal areas.
Thank God!
Luv 'Saving Private Ryan'...very Hollywood but a very poignant and great movies.
