Mets have penciled-in June 3 as John Franco Bobble -head day at Citi Field. John will also be entering the N.Y. Metropolitan Hall of Fame.

Perhaps, St. John's should entertain the thought of having an event at Citi that day to honor one of their favorite sons .

Franco was never one of my favorite guys. If you played basketball in the gym during free time, the baseball team in general were notorious hackers. I think I still have bruises - they played something closer to rugby. Although a few years older, Dom Scala (who I believe becmae a Yankees bullpen catcher) was a really nice guy, as was Randy Caden and a few others, like Jimmy Loefler. I have a friend who moved down to Port st. Lucie and approached some of the SJU guys (Viola, Franco, and I think Bross who was in camp), and let them know he was an SJU guy, and they totally blew him off.

Franco I always felt was cocky, and was an unreliable closer for about 1/2 his Mets career. Viola was really hated by his HS teammates at East Meadow. I have a friend who played at East MEadow HS and Viola had a penchant for turning around and staring down any infielder or outfielder who dared make an error while he was on the mound. They hated him so much they put HEAT in his jock to exact revenge.

I hate to bash one of our most successful major league players, but Franco isn't close to being one of my favorites.

One thing for sure, John has been loyal to the school and the baseball program.

He shows up at the annual baseball dinner (was the guest speaker one year) and was there when St. John's played Georgetown in the first game ever at Citi Field.

Two years ago, Viola came to the annual baseball dinner and was very nice to everyone. He even took a picture with my grand nephew who was 5 at the time.

People grow up and mature.

Agree with that one. A relative Met Viola about a dozen years ago at a Spalding event. The cousin went to U of Mn as did Viola's wife. When Viola heard that he asked if he would like a photo together, then had it sent to my cousin, autographed. Classy move.

They could buy a whole section on stub hub for $1 a ticket and mark them up.

Would be a great fundraiser for St Johns

With the team the Mets will have, they may have to sell those $1 tickets at a loss to get rid of them.

F*ck the Wilpons.

I am done with anything having to do with the Mets until that piece of sheit family sells them. They are are disgrace.

And it shows how nefarious MLB is.

The Wilpons never overslotted when draft picks -- which really hurt the minor league system -- just to appeaze MLB.

Now, the Wilpon's great friend, Bud Selig, can let them skate through all of this as the franchise becomes the most embarrasing in baseball -- and second place is not even close.

The Mets are persona non grata to me.

I lived through the Mets dog days of the 60s as they slowly added talent. Despite an objective NOT to lose 100 games, every year there was hope.

I lved through the Willie Montanez and Fankie Taveras days in the 70s, when the teams were horrible.

I lived through the Vince Coleman period where the 86 and 88 teams quickly got old, addicted, and out.

This preseason is as vacant in hope as any season in my memory. Wilpon, through mismanagement and a desire only for profit and not to WIN, allowed Philadelphia (!!!!) - a second rate city if there ever was one, build a dominant team that sells out an entire season. Shame on him and his Brooklyn Dodger obsession.
