Julian Draft Report

Hi. Have been on this board for years but took a break and forfgot info.
Zack is 100% absolutely WRONG about the NBA assessment Julian got. He was told he’d be a late 2nd rd pick but likely a FA.

New posters trolling the Board to trash Zach.  I'm sure he's not right 100% of the time -- nobody is.  But I find him to be intelligent, honest, balanced and well-informed.  I think we're very lucky to have him.

I can't speak to his intelligence but he's not honest, balanced or well-informed. A few years back when all the Slice drama was happening and all the rumors were floating around Zach was not only denying that there was fire around that smoke, he was straight up insulting fans on twitter that were asking him about it. So the fact that he was denying those rumors until they turned out to be true shows that either he was wildly misinformed, or purposely misleading the fanbase for the benefit of a friend he had on staff.

I know that seems like ancient history at this point but that was a major story around the program where he was wildly wrong and insulting at the same time. There's also been a couple stories from him about a certain local HS program that was complete journalistic malpractice.

We are lucky that there is somebody covering the program but let's not act like he's in the loop or that he calls it straight down the middle.

Beat reporters like Zach have to develop relationships with staff and fans as sources of information, even with people on here..   Wouldn't be shocked if he was trying to curry favor with staff before the story blew up.

I’ve been posting for years under SJU79... I lost my sign in. And I like Zach and his work. I’ve met him multiple times and find him engaging and sincere. This is Not a poke at him .. he just has incorrect information in this instance

I read Zach's report to be the best case scenarios for both Champagnie brothers so mid to late 2nd round as best case for Julian is pretty much in line.  Like someone stated 100 players or more are going to get draft reports and I guarantee more are going to see late 2nd round or better than are going to get drafted.

I think draft grade and where he's told he's likely to get drafted may be two different things.  Zach said his draft grade was mid-low 2nd round, as I said in another thread I'm sure 50+ other players received the same grade, and obviously 50 players won't be taken in the mid-late 2nd round.  You can be told your skill level is at a low-mid 2nd round, but your likely to still be undrafted based on the other players ahead of you.

I believe Pautzman recent post is correct. He would need to be a wing in this 3 and D era. The feedback he has gotten is that he is not quick enough to guard the 3 and he needs to work on putting the ball on the floor. I’ve heard he is a very impressive interview and that coach has several connections to the NBA and is committed to Julian to work with him on his weakness. Yes he is a solid shooter but to be one dimensional you need to be Korver/Reddick good. All signs point to him returning and I think the fact that he’s working out with Boston is not a coincidence

Hello, I just made this name, in hopes that Champ return, we are going to need him big time.
Lets have a big year guys.

I completely agree his ability to defend the perimeter is the one thing holding down his draft status.  My one concern is if he tests well in the agility testing (and measures well) then he will get a commitment from a team to be drafted.

My take is that after going through the process Julian gets strong feedback that he will be drafted (1st or 2nd round) he'll stay in draft, otherwise he'll come back to school and program he loves. Can't argue with that decision, just need to be patient. Never a fan's strong suit.

In response to a few posters on the main board with all due respect their is no chance Julian is a first rd selection. None. I love his game and the kid but he’s absolutely not going to be drafted in the first round. None. Right now he is at best a mid to late 2nd rd pick.
As for the comps to Paul George I’m really not sure what that comes from but it’s kinda asinine.  The comp I heard is if everything goes perfect he’s a TJ Warren but I’ve heard Keiita Bates Diop.. who btw was a late 2nd rd pick after being big 10 POY and an all American
