Juice WRLD death

Such sad news.

The drug use that has been normalized in rap is frustrating. Guys like Juice and Lil Peep have been open and honest about their struggles with addiction and depression.

I fear they combat depression with drug use too much, and don’t even consider stopping because it has been normalized and considered cool to do those things as a rapper. It’s a shame. These kids gotta stop taking pills. It’s a dangerous game they play every time. They are putting their bodies through things that a 21 year old should not be going through

RIP. Gone way too soon

Unfortunately, this is a huge problem in society in general. I grew up in a drug culture in the 70s. Probably 95% of the kids I grew up with did drugs, but few kids that I knew died. Today, I feel like between my son(24) and my daughter(21), I hear a different OD story every week. It's an epidemic with no end in site.

Actually just realized it was a seizure, but who knows what(if any) role substance abuse may have played in his death. Regardless, tragic any way you look at it.

More than 70,000 people in 2017 - number one cause of accidental deaths in the U.S. for several years. Some evidence suggests that it may be leveling off the last year or so, but it is still way too many. Very tragic.

Damn shame, after I retired, I spent eight years volunteering at the Outpatient substance abuse program at Queens Hospital Center. Many people who are addicted to opioids, started with prescription medication. Pharmaceutical Companies have made Billions off of pain medication. It is harder than ever to get into treatment programs without insurance. What was a non profit industry 40 or 50 years ago is strictly about profit now.

Fuschia invited me to a presentation on an alternative form of treatment at Columbia University last month and I am going back for the next presentation in a couple of weeks. Hopefully, our government will begin to realize how serious this problem is. Additionally, my granddaughter who is in the 8th grade, told us that some of the students in Middle School are already Vaping. The pursuit of money at all costs is going to severely impact he younger generation.

A good book to read about the opioid crisis is "Dreamland" by Sam Quinones.

It’s a scourge. I deal without it all the time. I am a clinician that helps run an Intensive Care unit
In Southern New Hampshire. The narcotics problem is a huge one and it’s everywhere. Not sure what the answer is but once you’re hooked it’s often for life.

One of my teaching partners is a psychiatrist who is also certified in addiction medicine. He explained that taking opiates, (and probably many other addictive drugs) leads to a proliferation of receptor sites in neurons, and they don't go away, triggering cravings. Part of recovery is understanding that those receptors are still there and that any relapse sets off the whole system, thus the need for abstinence or using clinically prescribed drugs that disrupt the receptor system.

These Chirren really need to understand there’s more to life than popping pills and doing lean. I remember an article how Juice Wrld talked about how Future music made him want to try lean in 6th grade. This is a real epidemic amongst the youth.

"Law enforcement sources told the Tribune that 41 "vacuum-sealed" bags of marijuana, six bottles of prescription codeine cough syrup, two 9-mm pistols, a .40-caliber pistol, a high-capacity ammunition magazine and metal-piercing bullets were among the contraband found. Two of Juice WRLD's security guards were arrested on gun charges. The marijuana and codeine were found in bags, according to sources, that had no name tags. It’s unclear why federal agents were waiting for the plane’s arrival. The investigation is continuing."

May he rest in peace, but still I can never feel bad for someone who does this to themselves....

Very sad when someone so young dies.

Does look like some very disturbing facts coming out. Guns and not just any guns high capacity ammunition and metal piercing bullets? Sounds like things needed in a war zone. Of course large amounts of marijuana found and involved. Then again, marijuana is or will be legal in large portions of the country. So....

Many tough issues to unpack here.

The Feds just happened to be waiting for his plane the day he has a seizure in the airport?

When he knew there was police about to search his private jet, he took multiple percocets so the police wouldn’t find them. His body couldn’t handle the amount of Percs he took.
