 1) Prep School - The prep school that invalidated the three should have been vetted better. Yes it was accredited but should have passed a smell test. Given all the upgrades in compliance, we should be ask more questions than does it meet NCAA minimums.
2) Once we had the problems, what did we do for the kids...obviously two got so disheartened that they quit and the only remaining guy is already a millionaire with a little less on the line.
2) With 13 months to determine when to have surgery, why wait until the 13th month. The day after the NCAA tourney was over would seem better or even a month. Cancer is random...the delay in surgery has caused damage. That was manifest in the Lindsey decision as well as the absence of good recruiting news (which dominated this time last year).
3) The Big East is a shambles. Do we care about any games besides Georgetown, Louisville, and UCONN? Where is our leadership here. We are idle while the greatest basketball league morphs into Conference USA. Whom would swap their Pitt tickets for SMU? Their are RPI and recruiting issues too.
4) Moral Leadership - Syracuse's arrogance and personality cult allowed for at least two boys to be raped. Are we an abettor by keeping them on the schedule? We are not SUNY Queens...this is Roman Catholic University that embodies the standards of the Vincentian Order. Does this mean we should embrace Boeheim's accusations that the accusers are liars when a prosecutor articulated a cogent thesis that this they were telling the truth. At a minimum given their league treachery, we should move the game back to campus to deny them a bigger form to promote Big East disunity and pedophilia.
Like many of you, I endured ten years of mediocrity for our Moses to lead us to the promised land...is that where we are headed?

re: Cancer - Lavin did say that the surgery was in response to a biopsy with "turn for the worse" news. It stinks that surgery had to come late, but you don't want to go in with the surgical procedure before you have to, generally.

Holy holier than thou Batman. Just curious, who's responsible for more harboring more child abusers, Syracuse University or the RCC? If the latter shouldn't we move the Syracuse game to the gym at Yeshiva lest someone accuse Lavin of "promoting ... pedophilia"?

Thanks for fact checking my one liners. What's next? The chicken didn't cross the road?

You know better than anyone the RCC is not alone. At least they didn't bury their victims in the basement or dress like clowns. Vestments are another story though.

That's for damn sure. The media will have you believing that it is only priests, however, because there is a hatred in this country for the Catholic church and we all know it. When was the last time we read about a Rabbi abusing a kid? Am I supposed to believe that never happens, ever?

A child is a thousand times more likely to be abused in a public school than a rectory. Teachers are the real villains.

The link I pointed to above is a story about pedophile coverups in the Orthodox community. There are sick perverts everywhere (some dressed as clowns or adimiring those who do), but it's those "snae people" who cover up crimes against children that deserve even worse punishment.

I can't stand comments like this. It doesn't matter if the media makes the RC Church's problem seem larger than it is, and downplays other instances of abuse. Are you jealous that the media allegedly looks the other way for other religions? There are no excuses, there are no complicating factors, or ways to frame it: wrong is wrong.

And fyi there are 100 Catholics in this country for every 5 Jews. Maybe that's why you don't hear about as many instances of abuse, because it's 95% less likely to occur??

You can bash the basketball moves all you want, but in my opinion, questioning someone's decisions about their own health because of how it relates to basketball crosses a line.

Some moderator will jump in any moment regarding R&P, but Zan's point is that taking pot shots at the Catholic Church is always fair game. You can ridicule the belief structure, attack leadership, anything really. Anytime anyone attacks other maintsteam religions, there is such immediate pushback that they rarely get attacked in the same way the Catholic Church is. Believe me, if some Catholics demanded the right to observe the sabbath starting at 1:00 pm on Fridays, or issued death threats to those who made fun of Jesus, the mainstream media would be all over the Church.

1. Yes, could have done better, but I am not so sure that it would have made a difference for Sampson and Pelle which is why they both need the full year of prep school.

2. What exactly should the school have done? The kids became free agents and the staff went out and has been re-recruiting them from day one. Maybe recommend a prep school but other than that, what could the school have done? BE does not accept partial qualifiers and therefore these young men were just like every other recruitable athlete.

3. Lavin's surgery has hurt the team and the program I agree but I am sorry, the human factor is, he got cancer and that my friend trumps everything for me. Knowing you have it even if it is a curable form would be devastating news for me. I am not and can't question his decision on when to have the surgery because I am not in his shoes and God willing will never be. As a previous posted stated, if you can, you try to hold off on surgery as long as possible in alot of cases. We are not talking a face lift or athroscopic surgery. If I recall right, he underwent a radical surgery. He was consulting doctors at all times, going for regular visits. He was probably praying it could be treated without the surgery. While it has had a negative impact on the team/program, it has had more of a negative impact on him. His health is the most important.

4. As far as the revamping of the BE, yes the Commissioner fell asleep at the switch and we know Pitt played both sides. No, the BE will not be the same, but what do you expect St. John's to do? Go off and form their own league? Can't do that overnight. You need to start discussions and who knows if it will lead to anything. Football runs the Conference and has for along time, even though the real success of the League has been Basketball. Football is where the big money is, it is why the football was formed, We can talk about a "Catholic" League but you have to have enough teams to be willing to form it and it is not something that will happen overnight. So the BE did what they could to salvage it. Will it be better, I highly doubt it. Will it be good, I don't know. I do know that 21 teams in Basketball in 2013-14 season is too many. My guess, they will let the turncoats go after the 2012/13 season with some additional monetary agreement.

5. We play Cuse because they are in our league and we have to play them. We play everyone in the league and no you can't move the game back to campus because you have already sold more tickets than CA can hold. We will get the chance to not schedule them in a couple of years when they leave the BE, if the school so choses.

Bingo, I can't believe someone will question why & when he did certain things in regards to his life for the sake of coaching. Someone needs to get a life and realize there is more in life than college basketball.

I cant believe you criticize Lavin for waiting to have the surgery. That is how they deal with this prostate cancer. Even when they are ready to do the surgery it is often a few months in the waiting as they will often give chemo or some other treatment in the months prior. My friend is going thru it and it is practically a three month prep period. Now every case is different but I suppose Lavin had to go thru som period like that and if he was going to get chemo he probably waited for the season to end before starting.
