JT III pulled a class move before the game when he asked the AD where Louie was and was taken up in the stands to meet him and spent a few minutes talking with him.

Also made some good observations regarding our lack of movement, Owens love of the three pointer, poor rebounding and Leitao's switch to a zone. Actually surprised me with his analysis of the game, probably because I didn't think much of him as a coach.

Other items GT III pointed to were St. John's failure to get 50/50 balls and tough rebounds and how usual play called after timeouts was give the ball to Ponds and let him go one on one.

WHY would you be surprised? JT jr. went to the post season 14 of the first 15 years he coached with 9 NCAA Tourney appearances when the Big East was really Big! While he was graduating Princeton and serving as an assistant under talented coaches our guy was having "issues" that took a few NBA seasons to resolve. I am hoping our guy will be as classy and win as many games as JT did for Gtown.

Yes it was a class move. Looie had a lot of well wishers visit him and that was before they announced his birthday.

I saw that. Was speaking with a friend who has tickets right behind Louie and we both thought that was a class move. Good for him!

Knock Mullin for a lot things. Don’t knock him because he needed help for alcoholism. Which he treated and continues too. Pretty lame also ignorant.

Danny, thanks for making that point. Alcoholism is a disease and that poster’s attempt to mock Coach Mullin says more about him/ her than it does about Coach Mullin who by all accounts has manned up and dealt with issues related to his alcoholism. Sad.

I guess context is everything. JT III and CM are contemporaries. One is a former all time great basketball player while the other is a former college coach. Our guy is now the coach. When the original poster stated "Actually surprised me with his analysis of the game, probably because I didn't think much of him as a coach", I was amused that a guy who was, by any measure, successful as a student and as a coach when I said "JT jr. went to the post season 14 of the first 15 years he coached with 9 NCAA Tourney appearances when the Big East was really Big" and paralleled their post college careers it was being blunt. I never mentioned alcoholism because that wasn't the only issue. I didn't blame him for inheriting an additictive personality and especially for getting treatment once the ball was removed from his hands by the only man to confront him by the age of 24. That we continue to be critical of coaches who were, in their overall careers, successful while we have next to zero to be proud of in recent years is bafoonery. I am a card carrying Hoya hater but I never thought the Thompson coaches ever bordered on mediocrity. Thus I stated " I am hoping our guy will be as classy and win as many games as JT did for Gtown. " because this hated Hoya went to a sweet 16 and final 4 and more post season appearances in his career than all our coaches combined after the retirement of Lou Carnesecca.
Thus, the two subjects (JT3 and CM) when arranged in parallel are sharply opposed, the effect is one of antithesis. My wildest dream is to have CM become half the coach either of the Thompsons were before their fall.
BTW, I'll respond to the honorable OTIS here regarding his lesson in alcoholism. I am and have been very close to the effects of that insidious illness and don't take it's effects lightly. As I said, grasping the context of what one says or writes is helpful but only when one can put aside the personal animosity they may have with the messenger. I missed your outrage when a few of the literati here made light of a coach battling the effects of cancer or making light of the death of his father because we weren't winning enough games. Just saying ..........

I think simply saying that "I wtote something stupid and ignorant and I apologize" would suffice.

If you, me and bar room full of the rest of boys here had to apologize for what was stupid and ignorant in our posts there wouldn't be enough bandwidth on this site to cover all the apologies needed. That said, if some here were offended by referencing anything negative about coach Mullin I sincerely apologize. I should have just focused on the subject JT3.

BTW, what really should have pissed fans off is the stupid fact that JT3 went to a sweet 16 and final 4 and more post season appearances in his career than all our coaches combined after the retirement of Lou Carnesecca. :( ;)
