Johnny Dawkins

Just tossing it out there because...why the hell not at this point. If they are really considering the like of Cluess and Sheyer then surely Dawkins has to get a look. He didn't look like a good option at the beginning of this process but hes looking more attractive right now. Have to wonder though, does he see himself as having a shot at the Duke gig in a few years like Hurley no doubt does.

Agree, good choice but if it’s a Dookie, I think I like Amaker better. He can recruit very well, is smart and at this point quite seasoned. Lots of choices. Hope we make the right one.

But it seems like we'd have a better chance of getting Dawkins to leave UCF than Amaker to leave Harvard especially since Amaker's wife is a well respected academic from what I understand.

I favor Amaker as well.

Amaker leaves Harvard for Duke, imo, not St. John's. And if he did, he'd have his eyes on the Duke prize sooner than later, as probably would Dawkins.

Amaker has kind of sucked at Harvard post Jeremy Lin and he was a bust at Michigan. I think Dawkins is a much better coach

Melted down as his team did his last year at the Hall, did not do well however he has won like 7 Ivy League Championships at Harvard in 10 years which doesn’t suck.

Whether he should or should not be the one is a different story.

Of all the potential candidates in the Duke Coaching Tree, Dawkins might have the most motivation to come here now.
- 5 of his key players are seniors, who are leaving due to turning pro or graduating
-His son, Aubrey, a junior who also plays for UCF, just a few days ago declared for the NBA draft, so he won't be around, either
-UCF is more a football school than basketball, so he doesn't get as much of the limelight there that he would here
-Current salary is around 1.5 million, so it's very doable financially.
PS: Coach K *loves* Dawkins, got very emotional talking about him in the NCAA post-game press conference after UCF almost beat Duke.

No way Dawkins is going to Duke from UCF.

Dawkins will replace K when he steps down some day. Dawkins took the Stanford job with K blessing and the understanding it would be there for him. Dawkins is very, very close to K. Dawkins is here every summer

Declaring for the draft does not mean he will stay in, can always withdraw.

I have a friend who went to school in MC who has always referred to Dawkins as Johnny “Duke”. He always says he is K’s heir apparent. Who knows when K will leave though.

I’d be happy with this hire. I’d be willing to bet everything I had on Amaker will never coach Duke.

I'm reluctant to be too high on seasoned, successful, HC's who are former Dukies.
If this guy is the 'heir apparent' to Coach K, I'd label him a 'risky' hire for us.
But maybe he isn't, since an NCAA-BB piece last September ranked Wojo 1, Capel 2, Collins 3, Hurley 4, and Amaker 5.
Dawkins was unmentioned.
Interesting.
