Johnnies Struggle At The Line / NY Daily News

they shoot 10% better and they are 3-0 in the ig East.

That is assuming the other team stays motionless for the rest of the game. LOL!

oops! I meant from the free throw line. 10% better from ther line we are 3-0 in the big east.

Note says that sju submitted more paperwork to NCAA this week, but that he remains ineligible

Good , it should mean that this situation gets resolved sooner than later.
Time to end this suspense one way or another.

Am I mistaken but from watching the Gtwn game do both Pointer and Obekpa throw the ball at the basket rather then shooting foul shots?

I disagree. Pointer's release - he doesn't release the ball like most college players. I can't describe it, but it's definitely odd. I feel it puts him at a disadvantage. Also - he doesn't take his time at all with his motion. He just quickly moves his arms up towards the rim and and releases the ball. Too herky-jerky. He needs to work on smoothing out and slowing down the whole motion - then he'll have better results. It would be ideal if he change his release, but that is probably so programmed in his head that nothing can be done about that. I think his release/motion really limits him as a shooter - he'll never get better until he breaks his fundamentals down.

Obekpa - his release in my opinion actually looks ok. But he is almost always long on this free throw. He needs to 'soften' up the arc of the shot so it drops down more on top of the rim. He free throw attempt is too flat. Get more arc on it. shoot it 'softer'. He should be able to improve that considerably with a little practice.

Shooting mechanics are so overrated. There are plenty of very good shooter who have imperfect releases. There is something to be said for standing on that line all by yourself. I'd talk to Obekpa about not shooting 8 inches behind the line like he does. And lets recall Dom was 6-8 from line last game. Today he was 2-4. Dom hits 1 of those misses and he's 75% for the day which is better than majority of college players for most part. Not huge sample sizes because we just don't get to the line a lot. Thankfully we don't.

Foul shooting is a big problem on this team and Obekpa stands out in this regard.

Good shooting is atypical of players with bad mechanics.

There are also plenty of perfect form shooters who can't throw it in the ocean. Bad form is just a poor excuse people use. Trust me FT shooting is not mechanics for most of these guys. Its all upstairs.
