Jayson Williams / N.Y. Post

I know this sounds crazy but why not give him a shot as a volunteer assistant a la Zendon?
It could certainly help Jayson get his life back on track
He knows the game well and could definitely help with player development
I generally don't think outside the box and please don't kill me for saying this
But I think it could be a win-win for everyone
And I also love the idea of helping people in need within the St John's family

Always make me sad to read about Jayson. I know he's done some terrible things and has had numerous relapses, but I can't help but pull for him. He has a lot of good in him, and I hope that, even at this later stage in his life, he can finally make a total, lasting turnaround and make the positive contribution to society that I believe he's capable of making.

I couldn't have said it better
All the more reason to bring him back into the fold with our basketball program

He's like our Doc Gooden. But not quite as talented.

Given Mullin's connection to him and what's hinted at bring a possibility, could definitely see him assisting in some volunteer role.

I too believe this man needs a break! I would give him the opportunity to get his life back on track by giving him a position on the team. Let's not forget the huge contribution he made to St John's before this terrible accident changed his life forever!
Good job Mully!

I too think a man who says he's "one drink away from losing everything" should in a position of responsibility around college kids.

I mean it worked in "Hoosiers" so it'll probably work here.

Actually, it didn't work in "Hoosiers." Hollywood being too realistic again.

If being around the team gives him something to do other than drink, I don't even care if he actually does some volunteer coaching. He can stand around and tell jokes if he wants if it helps keep him sober.

He was convicted of a crime, some degree of manslaughter so it was not an accident. In most favorable light he was criminally negligent. Just addressing your use of the term accident not offering an opinion as to whether we should hire him at SJU.

Whatever his intention, it was reckless and incredibly stupid, and drug and alcohol fueled. His words demonstrate just how deeply this haunts him.

It's crazy but I have always found it hard not to have some degree of affection for him. He appears to have the capacity for tremendous good, and I'm not sure any other SJU athlete has ever contributed 7 figures to the university. I believe he can do good being at SJU, and in doing so, could help repair a damaged life that wants to be an agent of good. I hope there is a place for him here.
