Jackson Looking Better All the Time

Let me throw out this question. Could Mark Jackson coach any worse then Lavin? I don't think so. Still believe with Marks experience as a leader on the Knicks and Johnnies he at least would have some semblance of an offense and cohesion on the court. I guess our elite coaching staff is not so elite.

And to think some laughed off mark as a candidate. But he is only winning at the highest level-doubtful he could be successful on our level-yeah right.

He would have done well here, probably. However, I personally believe he wanted no part of any college coaching job, including us. He was holding out for NBA all the way, IMO.

I love Mark Jackson as much as anyone. I stopped being a Knicks fan for many years after they traded him away. And, in retrospect, it looks like he would have been a good coach for us. But after the struggles under Norm, it would have been too risky to hire someone with no coaching experience.

Some validity to what you are saying but a professional organization in the business of basketball thought highly enough of Mr. Jackson to hire him-and I doubt Father H put more thought, time and effort into his hire than did the Golden State Warriors.

Nobody any more ticked about last night's debacle than me...and I think Lavin had some culpability...but to start abandoning ship is ridiculous IMO.

Got involved in discussion and was just focusing on M Jackson-not meant as a reflection on coach Lavin at least on my part. Haven't abandoned ship in 40 yrs am not going to start now.

Two professional organizations thought highly enough of Mike Brown to hire him, and I'm sure he'll be a head coach again soon, but I wouldn't want him anywhere near our program.

While not a Mike Brown fan he has done fairly well as a coach and was fired what 4 games into this season and the results since have not been good-maybe Lakers have other problems. besides MJ has been doing well so so far it appears to be a good decision by GS. To be clear I was happy with the decision to hire Lavin over Jackson.

I, too, was elated at Lavin's hiring but would have enjoyed Mark as our coach as well. Right now, I expected more from this team, especially with a year of experience under their belt. There appears to be more weaknesses with this squad then I expected. Now it is time for the Johnnies to improve; can't play any worse. BTW, I never ever give up on the Redmen.

Lavin's cancer definitely set our development back a bit. It not only set us back due to player transfer (Nuri) and recruiting (Gathers) but Coach was away from the sidelines for a year. I think that he, too, is reacclimating to running the team.

Nurideen transferring was a good thing. He has 57 turnovers to date for a 6-6 team.

It hurt when he left as we were already so short handed but it was for the better. He is no star at Rider.

I don't blame Coach Lavin for the poor second half effort against UNC-Ashville. This team is not built to rebound. They are getting outrebounded in every game. Wait until the BE season begins. We need a GG or Sanchez under the boards. Coach may have to abandon his idea of redshirting GG and activate him before the next game if he can. Jones has shown that although he has a sculpted body he's not a good rebounder. With the group as its put together now its going to have to be a collective rebounding effort or the team is going to be in deficits game in and game out in rebounding. And by packing it in the three point shot is left open and teams are being given the three's. Some games they hurt us and sometimes not so much. But we're going to get hurt inside or outside and sometimes both. So while this team has a lot of talent it is also flawed. That's just how it seems to me.

They are not built to rebound because our coach, in his infinite wisdom, has benched the teams' best rebounder! Who says Orlando Sanchez would be the answer in the rebounding department?? This is turning into a major rebuilding project in year three! To be out rebounded by smaller teams IS coach Lavin's fault and the rest of the staff, collectively.
The Sanchez mystery was not announced until November 3rd. Two months after Orlando arrived on campus fully registered for classes. With the anticipation in October of having a front line of Sanchez, Gift, Obekpa and Sampson, we are left with a big fat HOLE on the front line. Lavin obviously feels that an inexperienced frosh like Obekpa is going to carry us in Big East play!
Many fans are rightly feeling a little misled by Lavin. Not only in hyping Jones and starting him but in the Gift/Sanchez misinformation.
After the Sonoma game SJ released information that led us to think our front court issue would be resolved quickly.

"Sources said St. John’s could learn the results for Sanchez and Bourgault within a week to 10 days, and that they expect both to be fully cleared to play this season."

Well, as the new year approaches, Sanchez is in the DR and not with the team and Gift is still sitting and waiting as rebounding is our biggest Achilles heel.

Does God's Gift have any say on whether he is activated or not?

If I were him, I would refuse to use my last year of eligibility to play only half of a season. In my opinion, this school and staff has done nothing but jerk this kid around and use him....and that is not right. By redshirting him this year, they basically told him that they don't need/want him to play this year, and that reason is because they thought they were going to have someone better in his position. But things didn't turn out the way they were expecting, and now they potentially want God's Gift to play? That's just wrong. You shouldn't use someone like that, especially when that individual has done nothing but proudly represent this university and work his a$$ off for this university.

Activating him now after missing more than a semester , when he could have gotten good exp..and this being his last year does not make sense to me. Although I was against redshirting him,at this point we might as well save him for next year.

It also speaks to the staff's lack of confidence in recruiting any bigs. There will likely be 3 scholarships available next year and we are not a leader with any major top 100 recruits. Can Lav pull one out his bum and surprise us? Sure, but if our won-loss record starts to resemble that of Norm Roberts recruiting will get that much harder and the empty seats will multiply and our fan sites (BEB, JJ and Redmen) will see less and less dialogue. I am praying for a Christmas miracle.

We are co-leaders (if not the leader) for Jordan, and amongst one of the leaders for Lawrence. The former is a top 30 player, while the latter is a top 10 kid. Regardless, being a leader doesn't necessarily mean squat until the player signs.

As, far as less dialogue.... If one of those particular fan sites get any less dialogue, then the web site will vanish into thin air.
