Jack Wolfinger

I think many posters here and BEB knew he was a troubled kid.. Unfortunately, many of these young men, who have a talent, never know how to live life on life's terms. They seek and pursue their dreams and aspirations thru drugs or crime or, both. I'm incredulous that his parents allowed him to live alone at age 15.. To me, that's almost child abuse.

It appears he had a path to succeed but, wasn't able to follow it, within the rules that apply..

Both articles, seem to show Jarvis in somewhat a good light as he appeared interested in helping this youngster? I may be wrong in that assessment but, its' favorably worded toward Mike.

Wonder what Wolfinger is doing these days? anyone know?

I guess if you are a 7' basketball player you can find work somewhere.. At least until you get to the inevitable, end of the line.

He did live in Brooklyn for few years but nothing good came out of that. (won't get into details, read between the lines)
Jack is living back in Portland.

He played few games for a team in Cancun and tried out for a team in China but that didn't work out either.

I wonder how many of us would succeed given the life he had starting way before 15. We often think of fringe players as disposable commodities, and focus on caring about the guys who are the best players. It does appear form the articles that Jarvis was trying to see the big picture and get him on the right path - if that is true, then kudos to Jarvis. But the more important thing is we should realize that some of these kids arrive on campus from really rough childhoods, and just playing ball, no less going to class and studying is a challenge much different than what we would think.

On the basketball side of things, Wolfinger had almost freakish abilities for such a big kid. He could handle the ball really well, soft shooting touch, etc. you wonder if he had the right set of circumstances what he could have been.

People don't realize how hard some kids have it. Difficulties growing up can cause permanent damage later in life, especially if they aren't resolved quickly.

Can someone explain exactly what happened on campus that caused him to leave the team? It mentioned he was suspended a couple of times.

His brother Joe played a couple of years at Washington, then transferred to the Citadel. 6'10 guy with guard skills like Jack.

Hey, thanks for that! I was wondering if there was any connection when I googled his name. Jack did get accepted to USC, after playing at a community college for a year. DOn't know anything about that, either.

i met Jack years ado in the subway in forest hills. nice kid who had point guard mentality. some players just develop differently.

Andrew, we all know that all kids have the exact same opportunities from the year dot til they die. If they don't succeed it's all on them. ;)

I live in the neighboring town to Redding, CT, where Jack lived and went to high school for a bit. Got a chance to talk with him for a couple of hours once. He was real bright and seemed like a great kid. I hope it all works out well for him.

Which neighboring town? I went to high school in Monroe which is also neighboring

I hope I'm wrong, but I have a feeling the Jack Wolfinger post-STJ story is less than a happy one.
