 Had the pleasure of talking with Jack Kaiser yesterday. The man is such a class act. We spent some time talking about the upcoming season, the new recruiting class (the New 9 as I like to call them) and how far the school has come since his days as the AD. He continues to support and represent the University (he was on his way the women's volleyball match later that night) and I encourage all who should see him to say hello. I congratulated him on the naming of the baseball stadium after him and he seemed touched.
 
It was 40 yrs. this month that I started St. John's.

Lot's of great people have worked in the Athletic Dept. who should not be forgotten as the years march forward.

I'm sure I am missing many, but those who should be remembered include: Katha Quinn, who died way too young, Jack's predecessor as AD, Mr. Walter McLauglin, long time SID Bill Esposito, and sport's trainer Doc Gimmler. All were graduates of St. John's.
 
JSJ a few other names I remember from the old days now not part of SJU athletics:

Al Lobalbo former long time asst under both Lou and Brian

Roger "Dutch" Ouderkirk - long time asst football coach and equipment manager

Bob Ricca - former SJU football coach

John Skudin - long time swim coach(still a lifeguard down in Long Beach NY the David Hasselhoff of Long Beach)

Dennis Myron - recently retired director of tickets, felt bad the last few years he to deal with so many cancellations

I know there are other names out there...maybe other posters on here can fill in the rest.
 
 
 For what it's worth, Jack Kaiser married Lou's secretary.years ago. BTW, he has always taken public transportation, never drove a car.

I sat near them at the Georgetown game in January and went to introduce myself to Connie after the game.
She remembered me from almost 30 years ago and told me how she was married To Jack Kaiser. It was very touching to hear their story.
 
This is what makes this site so great.

JSJ I started on my way to becoming a St. Johns' man 40 years ago too, back in September of 1971. (I feel so old.)

Mr. Kaiser was on my little St. Johns' campus on Staten Island with Looie and the team to introduce us to the Men's BB team during my first semester there, it was such a pleasure.

I can't add to the list, but Brian Mahoney is another class act and my sister and brother in law were classmates with Looie's daughter and say she was really sweet too.

Oh, the good old days.

I am happy to learn that the baseball stadium is named after such a terrific gentleman as Jack kaiser. 
 
 The nostalgia posted here make this a very wonderful thread. I graduated from STJ fifty years ago this year. This thread shows the how great our heritage really is. Our Alma Mater is a very special place and certainly has attracted some wonderful people over the years. Jack Kaiser is a great example of the class that permeates the people who go to make up what we know as our school. Yes, I too feel old, but very proud of of our history, and it's wonderful people.
 
 John Kresse had graduated the year prior to my Freshman year (Sept 1965) and came back as the Freshman Basketball and Baseball coach although he seemed to spend most of his time on the squash courts :)

With mentors like Coach Kaiser and Lou how could he help but have a court named after him!

The baseball stadium was named after Jack after my nephew held a fund raising. He had recommended the naming of the stadium and building a wall of donors after meeting with Father Harrington. One has to know that this would not have happened without the fundraising. Makes me wonder why.
 
I will never forget sitting behind the Kaisers several years ago at one of the MSG games screaming my head-off "Let's Go REDMEN!!!" They both turned around to look at the psycho with the loud voice. I apologized for being loud. They were not annoyed by my voice, rather they said they were happy to hear someone referring to our team as the REDMEN! 
They could not have been nicer people.
