Jack Curran/ Mike Baxter

I happened to stop by my alma mater (Molloy) a couple of weeks ago and had a conversation with Jack Curran who coached back when I attended in the early 60's. We got to talking about the athletes who he coached and made it in the Pros, both basketball and baseball. Mike Baxter's name came up as I'm a big Mets fan. The interesting comment he made was that Mike was recruited by St. John's to play centerfield. As Mike didn't want to play outfield, he signed up eventually with Vanderbilt. So now you see the Mets have him pegged as an outfielder, a position he should have played for the Redstorm. Now you know the rest of the story, as Paul Harvey used to say!

great story really happy for Mike Baxter, also an AMHS alum  and huge Mets fan.

In the end Coach Blankmeyer correctly saw him as an outfielder.

Mets no-hitter saved by a fellow Stanner...priceless. Now if we can only get the Redmen our first National Championship!

What a catch. What a night. I'm still in disbelief.

Once Baxter turned his back on the ball I thought the no hitter was over. He has some surprising speed, both in the field and running the bases.

I graduated Molloy way back in '65
SJU in 69 and 71
I loved last night's game but didn't know about the Molloy connection.
an added bonus,..JSK thanks for noting it.
