J cole, as many of you know, is a St. John's alum who just released a new album. He has represented the university very well and I hope he gets to some games now that we are playing well.

Here's a interview he did last week, and he is wearing a really nice old school St. John's jacket:

Also, here is a performance he did last week on letterman that I wanted to share cause it is very socially aware and powerful. He also has protested in NYC in wake of the Eric garner controversy. I really enjoy his music but I think he's an even better guy, a proud alum and again just a great representative of our university.

I dont know much about his songs but a friend of mine who lives in london says his album is awesome and is a huge fan of his

The best rapper out right now IMO. Would be great to see him at some games.

Easily him or a Cali native kendrick Lamar. His new album is actually one of if not my favorite projects he's ever released. Midnight madness should happen he's a very generous guy and spends a lot of time in NY so it wouldn't be a hassle.

Plus he does tours where he only charges 1 dollar for admission so I don't think he'd be annoying trying to get paid a lot to do the show.

it is nice to see an alumnist succeeding but he is not a "rapper".

we can start a thread in the open discussion forum to discuss what the term "rapper" constitutes and provide some examples

I don't get what you mean. He is a rapper, hip hop artist, whatever you want to call it. He's the modern day Nas for this generation.

to keep it as brief as possible and to break it down as simple as possible for you, the best comparrison is this:

comparing today's "rappers" to those of the early to mid 1990s is like comparing the teams of the Norm Roberts era to the 1985 Final Four team.

and mentioning him in the same breath as Nas is like mentioning Tomas Jasuliones in the same breath as Walter Berry.....do you get it now?

Yawn. Not going to argue with you because it is clear you have no idea who j cole is musically. I'll just leave this here and be done with it.

And Walter berry and Tomas jasuliones(however bad an analogy that may be) are both basketball players.

JCole the sAme as Nas hahaha

Just listen to Nas ripping Jay-Z in Ether

To me he was greatest free style rapper of all time.

oldschool rap, remember those old videos: Boot camp click, Ghetto Boyz, wu, DMX Brand Nubian (until the Grand Puba went solo), Das FX, Black sheep.
Want the 80s Kane, GangStar, Eric B & Rakim, Kool GRap (Street of NY)
HipHop will never ever be the same.
THAT WAS REAL RAP.

I remember the battles my fraternity use to have on the basketball court with j cole's click "chief set,"
J cole back then went by the name "the therapist." Before he use to hit the court him and his crew use to freestyle in taffner, the kid had some serious spitting skills. On the court he was ok, he was an athletic 6'4 that could dunk, but had no left hand. His bball IQ was sub par, jump shot was decent, it was his athleticism that gave him the respect in taffner. Sigghhh miss those days when myself and my frat use to tear up taffner.

One of the most interesting threads in a long time. My favorites are RUN DMC and the 2 LIVE CREW.

Never said they were the same. J cole is similar to nas for this generation because he stands for similar things and has similar style and lyricism.

J Cole actually does make it to games, when asked he said whenever he's in the city he tries to make one a year. Here's a pic from I believe two years ago I can't remember, sat a few seats from me.

Whole heartedly disagree with every single thing you said in regards to him supporting the protest, because that's just foolish, but I think everyone is sick of that s**t so that's that. But here you have it Cole's world at MSG. Don't know who the kid that accidentally got in the picture is, maybe he's a user on here.

Wu-Tang is forever :cheer:
M e T h O d M a N.. sprinkle in a little Cypress Hill with some House of Pain... oh those were the days

Method Man scares me... A shout out for the O.G., Ice T. "Midnight" one of my all time faves.

I-Tea was a True-OG.
Suckers would diss on him, and he'd find out about him.
He wouldn't get into those hiphop battles. Instead, if he found out if they were i a studio.
He'd go to that studio and confront that chump. And be like.
"wassup you talking S*. smack smack smack.
That's why I always gave him mad props, always kept it real.

Lol, what is wrong with I said about him supporting the protest? It is true he did. He went to ferguson this summer as well. It isn't foolish for supporting a cause you believe in. Support the people or support the cops I don't care that wasn't the point of anything.
