J. Branch

I thought there was a time when we needed a QB in the game last night. I was surprised he was not put in the game.

Branch is an excellent back up to have and that is as far as it goes with him

Branch is actually much better than that. When he has received extended time (earlier this year) he showed that he is one of the more talented players on the team, with a very good BB IQ. And he can even score if and when needed, though that's not his role. I think with him, it is a numbers game. Since we are so loaded in the backcourt, he gets squeezed, particularly now that Lavin has seen fit to give some minutes to some of the earlier overlooked subs of late.

Great team player also, never pouts when taken out of the game.

Which I think hurts him when it comes to playing time.

There's enough drama with this group already, maybe Lavin feels that, by just playing some of the guys who would be unhappy about sitting on the bench, it would be lessened somewhat, and those guys would be OK. We've seen Obekpa refuse to go back into a game, we've seen Jordan and Harrison also pout when taken out (not in 2 years in the latter's case, though).

Since Branch doesn't do that, maybe there's more harmony when he sits out.

I dont think this is far-fetched at all.

Jamal is a decent player but never evolved into the point guard most thought he would be by senior year. He is a liability with quicker guards who routinely beat him and has much less skill as a one on one offensive player than Greene, Harrison or Jordan and that is what I think keeps him on the bench.

Never got the minutes because he never became a threat from the outside. Outside of the away game against Creighton, he never proved he could be a productive shooter.

On a personal note, have had the opportunity to speak with him at a few functions.

A first class young man

I agree and is well spoken. He is so similar to Tarik Turner that he could easily get into sports broadcasting. Both were decent players and solid citizens whose success will come with their college degree in hand and that is what it is really all about.

It's safe to assume then that his chosen profession isn't basketball.

No one on this board likes to have fun more than me Fun, and my karma is proof of that but I too have met Jamal and he is the type of student athlete that I wish we had more of. Not a starter in my opinion but a good student and solid citizen. I also think that his sportsmanship would make him an asset on an overseas team in a country where that quality may be appreciated like Japan or China.

He told me he wants to go into the fashion business.

Appreciated your reference to the The Chicago World's Fair in your DePaul commentary. I'm sure you have read Devil in the White City.

Maybe he can help dress Bruce Jenner

That would explain why he chose to play for Coach Sweatsuit.

Yes. I recently read Larson's book about the Galveston flood as well, Isaac's Storm. Similarly a good read. He's a LI'er I believe.

That is a great book, one of the best I have ever read.

Low blow, any of us who post on here would kill to be a role player for 3 years on the Johnnies! Come on we are all frustrated athletes. ;)
