I hope I am guessing right on which one of your children you threw the majority of the beatins too as they were growing up.http://m.washingtontimes.com/news/2017/aug/30/ivy-league-professors-condemn-intellectual-bigotry/
From the headline, I was actually unsure what they were condemning. Refreshing to see them say this. It is essentially what I have been saying to my children for a number of years. "Think for yourself". "Derive opinions based on knowledge, not based on public opinion at the moment". And most importantly "take what the mainstream media says with a grain of salt! Their main goal is to sell, not to inform". I've got one left leaning child and one right leaning child. When all is said and done, I expect they'll both wind up right around the middle.

With all due respect to your grandparents I think a group of Ivy League professors may be able to reach a slightly larger audience and regardless it is painfully obvious that many people are not abiding by your grandparents lessons.Nice, but I don't think it takes an Ivy League professor to come up with this basic concept.
I'm not even sure my grandparents finished high school, and I'm sure they said this many times.
Nuff said. LOLI hope I am guessing right on which one of your children you threw the majority of the beatins too as they were growing up.http://m.washingtontimes.com/news/2017/aug/30/ivy-league-professors-condemn-intellectual-bigotry/

Ha. I'll give you a guess which one is left and which one is right. I have one kid at Alabama(as you know) and one at SUNY Albany.

While it's very nice to espouse this viewpoint, Ivy League schools, and by and large most universities, only tolerate expression of THE CORRECT point of view.
Very little.Beastie, how much of the intolerance is actually a function of not knowing how to respond to "flashmob" demonstrations that block free speech?
"why is that?" Would have been a more succinct, unless you are trying to frame the questionIs it a conspiracy of the "liberals" or self-interested pseudo-intellectual elites protecting their right to miseducate the young?
