It Ain't Over

I am a longtime fan that is not ready to concede that this season is over. I am also not ready to concede that we need a new coach.
While I am not happy with the team's present record, or how they got there, the fact remains that the team has been competitive in all of their games
except Georgetown. I think every team is entitled to have one off game in a season. Watching that game made me sick.
Watching the other games where the team competed yet found a way to somehow lose has been very difficult but I still hold out hope that
both this team and its coach will right the ship. It's not as if the teams that they have lost to are bad teams. .
I mean there are 14 games left before we reach the Big East tournament!

There are 13 conference games.
11-2 should do the trick :silly:

Moose is right. They have to go on some run to keep it alive. Not looking very good for that to happen.

Judging by the scratch-of-the-head lineups that we see, this program is a mess and going nowhere this season. I'd love to be wrong about that.

Anything is possible, as I've seen stranger things in sports. But we've placed ourselves into a situation where we're gonna have to win, at least, 11 out of our next 13 conference games. That's gonna be very tough. Frankly, I don't see it. Very, very, little margin for error.

Basically, we're gonna have to win the Big East Tournament, in order to keep our fading NCAA Tournament hopes alive. I'll be rooting, nonetheless.

It ain't over.

But we ain't going to the 2014 Big Dance and we ain't winning the BE tourney either. Even the NIT is a long shot.

Doubt if we win 5 BE games - unless there is a radical transformation in the starting line-up, player minutes, D, shooting %, Xs and Os... i.e., all the small things needed to win.

Could the moderators possibly merge this with the other "It Ain't over" thread?

IMHO I think last night was the game to salvage the season. While it's mathematically possible to reverse it, there is absolutely no evidence to suggest that at this point. 1-4 as you know, is just 3 games below .500. O-5, well. Assuming they lose at Nova, they could only afford one more road loss, and sweep remaining home games. Geez, that is a really tall assignment. I'm not depressed, just a realist.

Someone recently compared us to the 2012 Villanova team, if that's true we are looking at a 13 win season (only 5 in conference). Now that seems more likely given the current state of things.

There is some logic in what you are saying except the expectation was that we were going to be significantly better than teams like DePaul and Penn State this season. Those game should not have been that close. The 0-5 start puts us risk at missing the NIT instead of being on the bubble for the NCAA. If we were 12-5(2-3) there would be some hope.

I disagree. This year is over. The question is who will be here next year? Jorden?,Lavin?CO?recruits? One thing for sure is we don't have to worry about anybody leaving for the NBA.

We would have fired Jay after that losing season. lol! But Jay recruits EVERY year unlike us.

We have to be honest. New York fans suck. We are wrapped too tight. We have this warped sense that believes that being a fan of a team means that you have to expect, no, not expect, DEMAND winning. And we have no patience for anything else. Collectively we suck. The reason you don't see many 20 somethings in the stands at CA as compared to 60-somethings is that 20-somethings aren't going to latch onto a team that has rarely been good in their life. For the older guys, its a night out of the house, and especially since bowling isn't big anymore, it's a chance to hang out with old friends before one of us has a stroke or codes. But nobody can be patient with a team that by the results has come up just a little short in nearly every one of our losses.

Sure we are so different than every other city's fan base...

LOL! Love your rationale for getting out of the house!!
What has been so downright disappointing this season is the total lack of preparation and focus in our games. Except for the Fordham fluke, we have allowed every team to dictate tempo. After the two exhibition games against lowly D2 teams I knew we were in trouble with this group. We have been unable to contain every team with a bit of talent and have lost to evey team with at least two decent shooters. As for our bench warming shooters, Marco and Max, I have been perplexed all season why Marco has not gotten any burn since he is a better passer and as good a shooter as Max but Lavin wrote him off early. Heck, Phil "I get blinded by light" Greene likely would not have passed to him anyway! LOL!
