Improper benefits question...

If any of our 3 hopefulls (Garrett, Pelle, or Sampson) were to come to our games and sit behind the bench without paying for tickets......would that be considered improper benefits or in any way a violation of NCAA rules?

Do you honestly think STJ is that stupid?

Why would you even post something like this?
Are you looking to cause trouble or alert the NCAA?

LOL I can't believe he asked that question. I guess y'all can toss this one in the trash bin.

I don't see anything wrong with my post... I am pretty sure the NCAA is well aware of how to find out information regarding our team, other than reading a message board.... and the "posts will not be tolerated" is just plain out ignorant. It was a legit question that I was looking for the answer to, and you make it sound like I am trying to accuse someone of something. I just used our players names because this is a St. Johns website, and that made the most sense....

And as far as "This is the same guy who wants to give joe paterno a pass."

I would not give Paterno a pass if he did anything wrong, but guess what, he didn't do anything wrong!! The Pennsylvania State police even said that Paterno did everything that he was supposed to do, and are not looking at him in any way at all...

I agree with jumbo on this one. The words "if" and "were" clearly indicate that the question was a hypothetical. While I would not have used specific names, it is a legitimate question. I don't think we can fly kids out, or give them free tickets, unless they are in an official visit. Other than Midnight Madness (which was free), i don't think any of the previous commits have been to the games. As for the local HS kids who attend, I have no idea. I assume that they buy their own tickets.

Please, Paterno did what was legally required and that was all. He did not do what a MAN would have done which was to follow up and make sure he did everything in his power to make CERTAIN the abuse stopped.

Before jumping all over the guy, why couldn't we just get an intelligent response from someone who would explain the NCAA rules regarding what is allowable and what isn't. It isn't like he posted that he saw the kids being handed paper bags filled with cash. Your response seemed to indicate that you didn't know if the tickets were a violation, so you bashed the guy. To my knowledge, Jumbo_Peanuts is a solid contributor to this board - not a rabble rouser.

If you are a season ticket holder, you are also aware that players and coaching staff families occupy seats behind the bench. Given the large number of seats allocated for this purpose, it's really doubtful that anyone is paying for them. I'd be virtually certain this is permissable.

Obviously the moderators "assumed" the poster was trying to stir trouble, instead of just responding to his logical question. Gee whiz, just relax.

There are more than 2 moderators. Don't paint such a broad stroke

There should be an NCAA rule against $3.50 sodas and $3.50 pretzels at on campus venues.
