Impact of Lack of NBA Talent In NYC on SJU

Looks like there will be back to back draft picks from Orange County: Cleanthony Early of Middletown, NY and Mike Tobey of Monroe, NY.
Jersey seems to be as strong as ever as welll: Kyle Anderson this past draft and Karl Towns next year.

This article is sad but true. Basketball in NYC just isn't what it used to be. And to Lavin's credit, I think he recognized this, and that is why he was focusing on the rest of the country, and not NYC.

I remember everyone on here being extremely hard or Lavin for not going after the local kids. In reality, the local kids just aren't good enough....

Comment by Mullin at the end of the article on keeping NYC talent at St. John's.

Think its about a balance of local and non-local kids. Glad we got Adonis. Wish we were more in the mix with Alkins. Know we both mentioned this before, but think we're going to be sorry that we weren't on Atson. Still plenty of talent in NYC and an abundance in NJ.. Not what it once was in NYC, but still good enough to be able to grab a few serviceable players every year or two. If we're going to go after 1 + 2 star recruits to fill out the roster, I'd much rather we grab those kids from NYC when we can, for a variety of reasons.
