Immediate Transfer Eligibility Proposal

This would be huge for our program. Could you imagine having this in place right now? We struggle to get high schoolers to come here, this would be a huge lifeline for our type of program.

I hope the NCAA does something intelligent once.

So huge that if most of the team transferred out we could petition the NCAA for a 5th year for Mullin and Richmond. Matt could play really small forward and St. Jean could be the floor leader.

The second proposal in terms of guaranteeing the scholarship for the length of the graduate program could mean you get a player as a grad student for one year but it will costs you two years of an athletic scholarship.

Need to make sure our players aren't performing too well in the clasroom.

I spoke w/ an NCAA official this week who was “95% certain” transfers will soon be allowed to play immediately in basketball & football. Could be a one-time freebie, plus grad transfer option. So in theory, a student-athlete could play for three different schools w/o sitting out.

Total free agency.

...and it would seem to shred--more so--any sustaining 'theme' of 'team' in college hoops. High-level kids will go where they can play to follow their NBA/professional dreams, to be seen--regardless how realistic their chances of stardom are--with the team 'winning' a secondary consideration.
This is what major college sports has become. It sucks, but it is what it is.

What happens to the kids who transferred first semester? Do they petition to play immediately if this rule change kicks in for 2018-19?

We're still a ways off from a transfer proposal. We don't have academic benchmarks, effective dates or other details that must be decided before anybody votes.

I would think this proposal would be a disaster. Higher conference schools could raid mid majors best players for a chance to compete in the big time.

It is however, fair to the student athletes to give unpaid revenue producers a chance to move at will to the school of their choosing. Since when was this about the athlete?

The biggest detail is how many per school, per year do you allow without destroying the basketball season and program of one your member schools. Also, how does it help those student athletes who are on scholarship at the pleasure of the coach? How many kid's scholarships can be pulled to make room on the roster?
