While St. John's and its fans have certainly earned the right to be giddy after emerging from the nightmare of 11 straight conference losses, let your imagination wander a little bit...
Say the Final Four began on Saturday. Villanova vs Virginia, St. John's vs Duke. Us being the heavy underdog and the team that didn't belong.
Villanova beats Virginia, to earn their spot in the Finals and arrive there the number 1 team in the country.
St. John's gets to the Final Four with the worst record of any Final Four team in history, winning a guaranteed bid by winning the Big East Tournament.
Duke the #4 team in their country and a #1 in their regional meets St. John's an unranked team and a 14 seed. St. John's amazingly upsets Duke, to get into the Final.
An 18 point underdog in the Finals, and a 5000-1 shot to win the chamnpionship, St. John's edges Nova to become national champions. Casino and bookies go bust as smart betters who knew the team was better, never lost faith and laid down a few bucks.
A very ridiculous post, but it feels that good. Our own Final Four victory that counts little except as perhaps the most unlikely two wins back to back in NCAA history.
It's hard not to feel great for these kids and coaches.
