Ian Steere denied waiver
Without comparisons, it technically makes sense.
What’s with the second guy at Iona. That doesn’t make much sense to me

It probably won't go anywhere, but Zach reported that St John's is appealing the decision on Steere's request for a waiver

Sid Wilson didnt get a waiver going to Uconn so this wasn't a shock to me.

Julian and Roberts going to get a ton of minutes early

If Dunn gets denied I'm going to be super pissed

It’s the year that hurts the most and that’s where I thought he had a chance. He’s gonna play his second game with 3/8ths of his eligibility already used up.

Yup, he was always going to lose it. The waiver was for him to not have to sit out a semester. He should have faked an injury or pulled a Mineshaw and smashed his hand with a hammer to get a red shirt.

I believe that I read that Steere would miss 11 games if the waiver was denied

I don’t know if I have ever seen any information as to why Steere left NC State in such unusual circumstances and timing but I am not surprised by the ruling. On the surface I would think the NCAA would want to avoid “encouraging” players to leave schools in a like manner. However, possibly there were extenuating circumstances in Steere’s case that would give an appeal some validity.

Kid played at four different HS, in four years, committed and decommitted from Creighton and bailed on NC State after not getting minutes in a blowout and seeing State have some tough competition coming in following year making minutes less likely.

With the HS jumps - at that age kids aren't making decisions, parents have to be involved. Maybe learning issues for all anyone knows ( not saying that's Steere's situation).

I'm looking forward to see him play but wouldn't be surprised if something changes down the line

Very fair concern considering that history. Hopefully CMA helps him mature and with hefty minutes he stays put for his remaining 2.5 years.

Time to see what Josh Roberts brings to the table with more playing time in Steere’s absence.

Very disappointing in that it also hurts our scholarship distribution. We have far too many sophomores and only 1 freshman playing this season. It would have been great for us on so many levels if Steere could have maintained his freshman status. Oh well, the life of an SJU fan.

I think they contact the previous coach in instances like this. Pearl may not have been happy about Heron leaving on the inside, but he didn't talk crap about him. I don't think the N.C. St. coach was happy, if I remember correctly.

School calendar indicates last exam of 1st semester is 12/18 which is a game date. He might be available that night but definitely for west coast trip vs. Arizona on 12/21

I doubt the waiver was for him to regain his freshmen year, it was that he would to have to sit out the fall semester. Getting his freshmen year back would be a waiver he would go at after he graduates. It probably doesn’t matter because he is most likely a graduate and transfer for a Grad year candidate,
