The Kyle kid thread got me curious. When did you guys start either lurking or posting on this site. I think for me it was 99 or 2000. Definitely it was before Bush got elected because thats when we started arguing and then R&P forum was created

Our first party ? Mkras would maybe know. Mustang Sallys I guess in 2000 or 2001 it was after the election because I remember everyone who argued was there and that was when I see Kranmars and we used to debate but we didnt know who each other was but we actually knew each other and then we started sitting with each other at games. He had tix with omg Kranmars whats his screen name ? They would sit up top during Norms first lonely horrible beginning and actually thats when I started with Alfredo because I respect that no-one was up there but them

And down the road thats how 114 started. Kranmars and me were regulars and one day we posted on a thread about msg before renovation and like 30 posters here were in our section then 114 was born into legend

Woof. This goes back so long I can't even stick a date on it. I certainly recall many threads about Fraschilla's coaching reign, which means going back to 96-97-ish.
The interwebs made is possible to follow St. John's hoops from afar and this site has been a lifeline. I think back to some of the old posters over the years – newsman, northshore, golden leaf, maven...the list could go on.
As always with a thread like this, much gratitude to Paul for making tis possible.

Met Newsie at our first party even though we argued politically and his love of Jarvis he is fantastic guy. Unfortunately as you know because you so graciously donated but North Shore past away which was a real loss to just humanity

I can’t believe many of you have been posting for 20 years or more. Mike - I have heard you reference the R and P forum a number of times. What was that? I am guessing Religion and Politics?

I was in such a different place in the late 90’s. I gave up my season tickets at some point which I had for several seasons after Felipe was signed. I had a lot of other things going on during that time(Not all we’re positive and I wish I had known about this forum then)The events of 2003 soured me on the program and I didn’t follow it very closely during the Norm years which I guess is a good thing. I have to admit it was Lavin’s hiring that revitalized me and I became a season ticket holder again not long after. I may have discovered the site around that time but did not start reading it with any regularity until late 2012. I had a major life change around then and it gave me a refuge. I quickly developed a lot of frustration with Lavin (I had a lot of frustration in general) but didn’t start posting I believe until some time in early 2013( I definitely could have had a few posts earlier on but that is when I became an active member so I guess it is going on six years). I feel that I have missed out on a lot of the fun times and the history on the site though. It was nice to meet a few of you last spring at a St. John’s baseball game but would like to meet many others.(Beast of the East and Paultzman come to mind and of course Paul to thank him for putting so much time and resources in but there are so many others including Mike Zaun :). I want to publicly thank JSJ for giving me great seats to two games(Xavier at MSG in Lavin’s final season and Marquette at CA last season) I have never gotten the chance to thank him in person and hope I do. His generosity will never be forgotten. The number of times that I post and even read the site has gone down somewhat in the past year or so-which I believe is a good thing as I have found some other positive outlets and some unexpected family responsibilities.

I am really excited for this season but not as excited as I feel I should be. I don’t know if this is a function of getting older or a defense mechanism for all these years of disappointment( I am a big Knicks, Jets and Met fan which doesn’t help). If things go as well as we are hoping this season then I would definitely like to share that enjoyment with others on the site. Who knows what the future will bring.

Yeah religion and politics. What happened and I'm pretty sure it was first bush election but we had a main board for posting and all the sudden people started debating election. Uhh it got contentious to say the least. SO Paul created a sub board for R&P and it was basically a free for all and we threw bombs at each other every day but come prepared or get destroyed. So this was definitely before the first party. We argued every day. But after the party when you see who you are arguing with sometimes things change ( sometimes they dont ) but some of those guys ended up being my closest friends over the years and like I mentioned before thats how Kranmars and I ended up sitting together forever it seems till a couple years ago his kids got older and he just has too much stuff going on as a dad

And as to people you want to meet. Paultz is awesome and Beast too. I'd like to meet Zaun too as he has definitely matured and I've known JSJ for a long time and not only he the nicest poster on this board but the best school advocate we have and also the most generous poster. Just a wonderful person

I'll intro you to them after an MSG game this year when we do a little get-together

Been around since near the start, and the old SJU board that was around before Paul’s site during the times of dial-up Internet. Made lots of good friends here. It’s like home to me. Very thankful for this place...

Pretty much when Paul started the site back in the mid 90’s (I am not sure what year). Somebody told me about 5he Site, I checked it out and have been here ever since.

Same as 85, almost from the beginning. Paul would know who started when, I assume. There are many great posters over the years form the beginning who don't post any more. Great memories al around.

Found BE boards in 2005 when I was in 8th grade and have been hooked ever since. Discovered Redmen.com soon after and stalked it religiously until the registration reopened. Scary to think that I’ve never committed more time to anything then I have to St. John’s message boards....thanks Paul, I guess :)

Like Maher it had to be around the same time 99-00. The start of the R&P forum with many interactions with USCongress. Lol

2007 I was looking for a way to listen to some early season tournament in Hawaii on the radio and a google search directed me here.

Thanks for remembering...and the mention. I began lurking in maybe '98 or '99 when Jarvis first became coach. It was about a year before I began posting. The site was mainly outstanding for reliable recruiting news. Maven's close connection to Jarvis along with Stallion were mainly behind it...but others also had a pipeline. The political arguments were pretty angry (for those days)...but nothing was angrier and funnier than BEB. I got to meet some great guys...one at a Redman party where Niagara kicked the crap out of us (by 40?) another at a party completely financed by PMG911...and at games. I remember mjmaherjr dragging his beautiful friend to one. My thought: If she'll go to these crappy games, she must be a keeper. Thoughts? We should have kept Jarvis. The team fell into the abyss after he left. We should lobby to get our wins back. No way a player who averaged about a point a game affected the outcome of anything. We never should have hired Norm. He had an abysmal record at Queens College, so what made anyone think he'd succeed here?

I mainly lurk now because I don't have many new insights to offer. I like Mullin. I think he'll succeed. So after 20 or so years that included at least one banning and several computer malfunctions, I'm still enjoying the board. The games? Not so much. Not yet.

I'm not sure exactly when I joined. I remember being on back in '99. I was about 19 then and today I'm 39...so more than 50% of my life

I've been checking Redmen.com every day since the end of the Fraschilla years. I first remember the discussions on this board about who would replace him... and not many of us at that time thought it would be Mike Jarvis.

She made the infamous Slyfox bus trip with me to Nova that first year. Now she’s rather I take her to ranger games because she says I get too angry when we lose :). Since I’m expecting a big year this year she’ll be back at msg for a game or 2
